Performance
To assess DreamHost’s infrastructure, I used WebPageTest to analyze the brand’s website performance.
These metrics can give us a general understanding of how well their systems handle data and deliver content, which could indirectly reflect the performance users might experience with DreamHost’s Blog hosting.
Here’s a breakdown of the performance metrics and what they reveal about DreamHost’s infrastructure:
Time to First Byte (TTFB): At 0.78 seconds, the TTFB is rated as fair. This measures the initial server response time, indicating how quickly DreamHost’s servers begin processing requests. While not instant, it’s within an acceptable range, suggesting DreamHost’s servers are responsive, though there may be room for improvement in server efficiency.
First Contentful Paint (FCP): The FCP time was 6.02 seconds in the test run, with real-world usage data showing an average of 3.59 seconds. This metric measures how soon the initial content (text and images) begins appearing on the screen. While this might be slower than ideal, it still shows DreamHost’s infrastructure is able to start delivering content relatively promptly in real-world use, though there is some delay compared to optimal speeds.
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): The LCP time was recorded at 7.62 seconds, but real-world data showed an average of 3.80 seconds. LCP measures how long it takes for the largest visible element to load, indicating when the page becomes mostly usable. The discrepancy here highlights that while the initial load might be slower in controlled tests, DreamHost’s real-world infrastructure delivers acceptable performance for most users, although there may be some variability.
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): With a perfect score of 0.00, CLS reflects the stability of content as it loads. DreamHost’s infrastructure performs well in this area, meaning users likely experience minimal layout shifts, creating a smooth and visually stable experience, which is a positive indicator for email hosting where a consistent interface is critical.
Total Blocking Time (TBT): The test recorded a Total Blocking Time of 15.832 seconds, which indicates moments where the page was unresponsive due to heavy tasks on the main thread. High TBT can hint at server load management and infrastructure capacity, suggesting that DreamHost might experience occasional delays under heavier loads.
DreamHost’s infrastructure demonstrates stability and the ability to handle user requests efficiently, although some metrics, such as TTFB and LCP, indicate potential for optimization under heavier load conditions.
In real-world scenarios, however, performance metrics remain positive, suggesting that DreamHost effectively leverages caching and other optimizations to enhance the user experience.
This indicates that DreamHost’s blog hosting is a reliable and responsive option, particularly suited for small to medium-sized businesses seeking consistent email performance with minimal delays.
Blog Hosting Plans with DreamHost
DreamHost currently hosts more than 1.5 million different blogs and other websites, and they have a very high customer rating. If you are looking to start a blog, you can install your content management system in just seconds, and run it with little to no actual experience thanks to the simple setup offered by DreamHost.
Dreamhost provides a robust support system designed to cater to bloggers of all experience levels, from beginners to advanced users. Here’s an overview of the key support options Dreamhost offers for blog hosting:
24/7 Live Chat Support
When testing Dreamhost’s 24/7 live chat support, I found it to be a reliable and convenient option for addressing blog hosting needs. Whether you’re setting up WordPress, troubleshooting plugin issues, or optimizing your site’s performance, the agents are knowledgeable and ready to assist. The live chat feature is easy to access—just click the chat icon at the bottom-right corner of their website, and you’re good to go.
I liked that the process starts with a bot, which is surprisingly efficient at handling simple inquiries. For instance, when I had a quick question about SSL setup, the bot provided the exact steps I needed without involving an agent. However, for more complex issues the chat seamlessly transferred me to a live agent who was both helpful and responsive.
Ticket-Based Support
When I explored DreamHost’s ticketing system, I found it to be a reliable option for less urgent or more complex issues. Existing customers can submit tickets directly through the control panel, making the process seamless and organized. During my test, the response time was fairly quick, and the follow-up was detailed, which I appreciated for issues requiring in-depth attention.
For new users, the system is just as user-friendly. You simply fill out a short form on their website with details like your name, email, and the nature of your question.
Dreamhost Knowledge Base
Dreamhost maintains an extensive Knowledge Base that includes articles, tutorials, and FAQs covering blog hosting topics. The Knowledge Base is especially helpful for common tasks like setting up WordPress, managing backups, or troubleshooting common blog errors.
Tip Start with the Knowledge Base for self-service solutions to routine problems like adding SSL or updating themes.
In-Dashboard Help and Real-Time Guidance
Dreamhost has an active Community Forum where users can share tips, solve problems, and discuss hosting-related topics. While this isn’t an official support channel, it’s a valuable space for bloggers to learn from other users’ experiences.
Tip Use the forum for peer-to-peer advice on best practices for blog management.
Overall Summary of Dreamhost Blog Hosting Support
Dreamhost offers a well-rounded support structure, combining real-time assistance with self-help resources to accommodate users at all levels. Overall, I found the support to be both professional and efficient. The live chat stands out as the go-to option for quick, real-time assistance, while the knowledge base is an excellent resource for those who prefer a DIY approach to troubleshooting.

2. DreamHost Control Panel

Unlike cPanel, which is common among hosting providers, DreamHost’s proprietary panel offers a clean, intuitive design with tools specifically tailored to streamline tasks for bloggers and website owners.
Key Features of the Control Panel:
Dashboard Overview: The control panel provides a clear snapshot of your hosting environment. You can easily view account details, domain settings, and hosting usage metrics in one place.
Domain Management: Managing domains is effortless. The panel allows you to register new domains, configure DNS settings, and add subdomains with just a few clicks.
One-Click Installations: For WordPress users, the one-click installer makes setting up your blog quick and straightforward. Other popular apps are also supported, providing flexibility for different website types.
Website Optimization Tools: The panel includes performance-enhancing options like enabling caching and setting up SSL certificates. These features are integrated to help optimize speed and security without needing technical expertise.
Email Management: You can create, manage, and configure email addresses directly within the panel. It’s straightforward to set up forwarding, autoresponders, and spam filters for a professional email experience.
Backup and Restore: DreamHost offers an easy way to schedule or manually create backups. The control panel also allows you to restore your website with a few simple steps if needed.
My Experience
When I tested the DreamHost control panel, I appreciated how user-friendly it was compared to traditional interfaces. Tasks like updating DNS records or installing WordPress were straightforward, even for someone new to hosting. For advanced users, the panel provides enough flexibility to customize settings while still feeling accessible.
DreamHost’s custom control panel is a strong feature, offering a balance between simplicity and powerful tools, making it ideal for beginners and experienced users alike.

Unreliable Mail server super slow My website is down
Obvious problem with mail servers emails take hours or even days to arrive into mail box and It is not getting any better. Today, November 23, 2021 my website crashed in the morning and It was down for 12 hours.
DreamHost is a website hosting that has recently misled users and by following its invented (often dishonest) rules, it removes important files from the customer's account - from the server - that are part of the domain infrastructure.
DreamHost has been added to the world DBA database with the status "red", ie untrusted and unreliable, which means that this service provider is not recommended and you should rather avoid using this hosting. O-CAI also warns users on its website: o-cai.com
In the details of the entry, we can read: "The user amy.lokmart@gmail.com via the O-CAI Organization purchased the homesfilms.com domain from the dreamHost operator with the server for $ 189 for 3 years. Running a film production project at Homesfilms.com. for a year, various materials were introduced, including 637 .mp4 files, which were to support work and learning on the film production process. After exceeding 1TB of disk space, a special dreamHost algorithm removed 637 files. The user amy.lokmart@gmail.com saw no further sense The development team removed the remaining materials from the account and transferred the domain to another host. DreamHost officially claims that its servers are unlimited, but if you exceed 1TB, it transfers your files to the DreamObjects service and orders you to pay extra, telling everyone that they are backups. DreamHost does not respect someone else's work [...] "
The amy.lokmart@gmail.com user statement says: "You cannot upload .mp4, .mp3, .jpg, .gif, .zip, .rar and other files to the DreamHost server, because if you take up too much space, they will delete everything. This is the worst hosting I've ever used. I really don't recommend using dreamHost. You should really think seriously before anyone wants to use dreamHost. There is no absolute contact from dreamHost. -mail responds the robot - then there are superficial responses as if someone prepared them earlier for a commercial recurring mailing. DreamHost is not honest, because it does not give back all the money - I paid for 3 years, and I used 1 year hosting and I did not receive any refund, for example part of the money, they only return the extra money paid to the account at a later date. If someone intends to use dreamHost, let them know that they will lose TIME AND MONEY, and time is money lust ".
O-CAI tried to contact dreamHost at support@dreamhost.com, but unfortunately all incoming messages are deleted because you are not a customer.
Been with them 3-4 days because of their "100% uptime". Their entire network has been constantly down for almost TWO DAYS. My uptime monitor reports total completely down over the last 2 days of almost FOUR hours. Including for an HOUR last night. Dreamhost is completely unsympathetic that my business is losing money, and has been sending out "gee we're sorry. It will probably be fixed soon" emails. I've been in many hosters, and Dreamhost is the worst by far. I now have to find another hoster, and move my site AGAIN because their service has been pathetic and unreliable. Run as fast and as far as you can from Dreamhost. A completely unreliable and dysfunctional provider.
ADDED: It's now the THIRD day my website is going down. A hoster with unresolved DNS problems taking down my site. This is the most unreliable service I've ever been 9n, and all I've gotten from Dreamhost is "our techs are working on it. Meanwhile, I lose money and clients, and they dont seem to care at all.
I was a Dreamhost customer and had used my Dreamhost account for doing offsite backups for many years. I wasn't backing up excessive amounts of data, but there were many files which were created by me which were irreplaceable. After I had a storage failure at home I went to retrieve the files but they weren't there. Apparently some while before I was sent an email to tell me that I couldn't use their services for backups and that they would delete them. I didn't see this email and so assumed that I would be able retrieve my files. So, I lost about a decade's-worth of my personal files and then when I got understandably very upset, they dumped me as a customer. I also had my Bitcoin wallet backed up there and their servers got hacked and lost all my Bitcoins. Are there any lawyers out there?
Tried their starter plan for a day but I had canceled the plan
While their plan is very attractive to join, I had tried for a day and had huge trouble to set up for my react app and node js app (Yet they did mention this in their documentation but I would like to suggest they should make it more easily to setup). There is a 24/7 support but I found that the support person does not have any technical knowledge, plus already take at leat 10 minutes for just looking up your profile before starting the chat. They seems not really helpful. But I do think they have value for website which uses other technologies.
In conclusion, I believe they should improve their support quality.
I used them for 3 hours, then I have moved to other host, the issues began when I tried to access my site, It was just so slow I couldn't bare with it.
