Phurix is based in the UK and provides a variety of options for web hosting. They have been in business since 2004 and appear to be a stable, privately owned company. On their site they focus on the fact that they use high quality hardware, network connections and other things to ensure their customers get a good, stable hosting environment for their sites. They only offer shared hosting and VPS solutions for their customers, but that is what the vast majority of people will need anyway. They also do domain registration.
Uptime & Reliability
100% Uptime Guarantee
Phurix does offer a 100% uptime SLA. This is quite nice, but it is important to note that it is only for their network connectivity. This means if your site goes down due to a hardware problem with the server or something like that, it is not included in the SLA. It is only if their actual network connection drops. Of course, this is still a nice SLA to have and more than most companies provide.
Looking at users of this company it seems that they do have a very stable environment and are able to keep their customer’s sites up and running smoothly. The load times seem quite fast and I didn’t find complaints about it either.
Features
Difficult to Understand Features
The features they actually offer are fairly entry level, but the worst part is they are not easy to understnad. They don’t provide a chart so you can quickly see what you’ll be getting. Instead, you can’t even compare the different packages until you get to the ‘cart’ section, and even then it is not that easy. The memory on the VPS’s is a little low with it ranging from 64MB to 512MB. They also have limits on disk space, bandwidth and more.
One nice thing for their VPS services is that they let you know how many other customers will be on each physical server. Entry level is 64 per box all the way up to 8 for the platinum servers. Most hosting companies don’t provide this information so it is a nice little touch.
Support
Quality Tech Support
The technical support team they have does appear to be quite good. Unfortunately, the way to reach out to them is not as easy as it should be. You have to fill out a whole form and then wait for them to get back to you. They don’t seem to have a ticketing system or live chat or anything. They do have some user support options but no FAQ or knowledge base or anything like that.
Pricing
Average to slightly High
The prices are fairly typical for what you would expect. For some packages I would say they are over priced since you are getting low resources but still paying normal prices, but others are a reasonable deal. Overall, I’d say the prices are pretty average and shouldn’t be a sticking point for most people who are looking for good UK hosting.
Summary
Some Concerns but Not Bad
This seems to be a good overall hosting company, but there are some concerns. The fact that the resources are low on the VPS is something to be aware of. Also, their ordering platform is not very intuitive. As long as you know what you’re doing and you take the time to ensure you are signing up for exactly what you need, however, you should have a good hosting experience.
Pros:
- 100% Uptime
- No Setup costs
Cons:
- Confusing Ordering Process
- No Comparison Charts
- Restrictive Limits on Some Packages
