HostPoint is a mid-sized hosting and IT services company based in Switzerland. They have been in business since 2001, making them a very well-established hosting company that will be able to meet your needs. They continue to innovate and keep their services up to date with the latest technologies as well, which is very important with any hosting provider. In addition to hosting services they also do domain name registration, e-commerce help and SSL certificates.
As of this writing HostPoint has 51 employees, 400,000 domains hosted on their servers and a strong commitment to giving their customers a great experience. They are limited to just ‘shared’ hosting and dedicated servers, though their shared hosting is actually a higher quality option that uses cloud technologies.
Uptime & Reliability
Very Stable Hosting
The hosting with this company is extremely stable. I did not see any type of uptime guarantee, but that is not necessarily a problem. They use high end hardware and their data center has redundant power supplies and network connections through multiple telephone companies. Overall, you aren’t likely to experience any unexpected downtime and if you do, they will get things fixed for you quickly.
Features
Limited Options but Great Quality
When looking through the hosting features that they offer you will see that there aren’t nearly as many package choices as can be found with other hosting providers. This is going to be something of a concern for some people because limited hosting packages does mean you will need to either pay for services you don’t need, or skip services you wanted. That being said, however, their services are all very high quality and will almost certainly meet your needs.
On the shared hosting (which is really cloud hosting) they have three options to consider. You’ll get between 10 and 100 gigs of disk space, which is more than enough for more sites. They also allow multiple account management accounts for easier use of their hosting. There are no limits on bandwidth, which is a great perk.
If you want a dedicated server they will happily build one for you. There are plenty of options for a custom order. You can have up to 32 processors, 128 gigs of RAM and many other exceptional features. These are really quite high end servers so almost any type of site will run smoothly on them. Another important feature here is that these are managed servers, which means they will help you with managing the software side of the hosting (many higher end dedicated servers don’t offer that).
Support
Helpful & Friendly Tech Support
Their tech support teams are very responsive and helpful when you ask them questions or run into trouble with your site. They even offer managed dedicated servers, which is very helpful for people with large sites but don’t really know too much about hosting. Another nice support feature is that they provide a lot of helpful data that can be reviewed to learn more about the services provided.
Pricing
Competitive Pricing
The pricing is all fairly competitive when compared to other companies. The prices are listed in the local currency so you will need to run them through a conversion to get them in dollars if that is what you are interested. Shared hosting runs from 9.90 to 24.90 CHF per month, which is reasonable for what you’re getting. The dedicated servers run 590 CHF and up, which is expensive but you are getting a great service.
User Friendly
Very Friendly Hosting Company
Everything is very easy to use and the people are extremely helpful. In fact, one of the ‘company values’ is customer service or ‘being nice’ to their customers. This is clearly taken seriously by the team because they made most everything on their site quite easy to figure out. The one thing that many people will find confusing is that they provide so much information about all their services that it can be overwhelming (especially for people newer to the hosting industry).
Summary
Great Swiss Hosting
This is a slightly unusual hosting provider in that they offer only entry level hosting and high end hosting, with nothing in the middle. Their shared hosting is very nice, but it is still going to be mostly for small to mid-sized websites. The dedicated servers are great for large sites. Despite this, however, they will be able to meet the needs of most users.
Pros:
- Customizable Servers
- Reasonable Prices
