Telstra’s infrastructure division, InfraCo, announces the conversion of two of its own-use data centers, in Sydney and Melbourne, into carrier-neutral colocation facilities.
Telstra InfraCo is a standalone infrastructure business unit within Telstra. It serves three customer segments, Wholesale in Australia, NBN Co, and the broader Telstra organization, with over 200 customers in total.
Telstra InfraCo reinvents how Australia’s telecommunications infrastructure is built and managed. Thus, it aims to open up new and easier ways for customers to access Telstra’s infrastructure portfolio.
With the newest innovation, InfraCo aims to deliver additional freedom to clients who aren’t on Telstra’s network. At the same time, it wants to complement InfraCo’s current data center infrastructure.
Telstra users will access InfraCo through Telstra Wholesale. The InfraCo Data Centers will deliver highly secure, reliable, and flexible colocation environments for network operators and service providers to connect to their business locations, facilities, and other data center operators.
At this point, we can mention Internet service providers, global carriers, and other similar over-the-top providers.

InfraCo data centers provide highly secure, reliable, and flexible environments for network operators and service providers, such as global carriers, internet service providers, and over the top providers, to connect out to their business locations, facilities, and other data center operators. These Data Centres provide 100% power availability targets, which are backed by service levels and rebates. They use dual grid feeds with state-of-the-art equipment and support for high power densities, allowing customers to scale on request, without the need to re-configure powering requirements to deliver big data analytic services and peak workloads.
First, Telstra InfraCo will extend the availability and use cases of colocation data centers across Australia.
The data centers converted into carrier-neutral colocation facilities are located at St. Leonards in Sydney and Clayton in Melbourne. They are both 10MW facilities with 5,669 sqm (61,000 sq ft) and 6,208 sqm (66,800 sq ft) of space, respectively. Furthermore, both have a PUE of 1.61 and available renewable energy options.
InfraCo will expand the availability and use cases of data centers into another seven existing data center sites based on demand outside of the first metro areas.
