Shopify Releases Over 100 New Features For The Next Era of eCommerce

Shopify unveils over 100 new features as it strives to improve its eCommerce platform. Shopify launched a new headless commerce product named Hydrogen and Oxygen, as well as a new ecosystem, checkout dev capabilities, and several other updates, in its bi-annual showcase, the edition.

Hydrogen Demonstrator is a React-based framework for creating commerce experiences, while Oxygen is a commerce-specific hosting platform.

claims that its Hydrogen tool accelerates development and enhances website performance for e-commerce websites and merchants, while its Oxygen Tools commerce hosts and manages DevOps for backend engineers.

Toby Lutke, who serves the role of Founder and CEO at Shopify, had the following to say:

At Shopify, we believe in infinite play. This means we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible for entrepreneurs. We work hard to solve the complex challenges we face today while envisioning completely new ways for merchants to grow their businesses. With Shopify Edition, we’re sharing our big bets in commerce and the latest innovations to help those ambitious enough to try their hand at entrepreneurship and grow faster than ever.

In addition to Hydrogen and Oxygen, Shopify has introduced a new Checkout Extensibility feature that allows developers and merchants to design useful Checkout modifications that focus on speed and flexibility.

Using the new tool, Shopify developers and merchants will be able to design Checkout modifications with Checkout UI extensions and functionality and offer them via bespoke apps or public applications on our App Store.

The eCommerce Website Builder also introduced Shopify Functions, which are built on the ShopifyVM platform and allow customers to construct unique discount, shipping, and payment functions that they can offer in their app stores.

Shopify, in an email, had the following to say:

Remission is the number one pain point expressed by merchants, and now, merchants will be able to access apps for their customers in their dashboard with better, faster, and more customized discount options, no coding required. App developers will now be able to reach millions of merchants with discount apps built on Functions, providing merchants with more reliable, secure, and performant discount functionality than ever before. Shopify Functions was built with performance and scalability in mind, and it can scale to handle global sales events – while still executing code in less than five milliseconds.

Other announcements include Local Inventory on Google, which uses Shopify’s Google Channel to automatically notify nearby customers when a product is available in a store, as well as Shopify’s new Twitter sales channel and its The US-exclusive Tap to Pay on iPhone feature, which was launched in collaboration with Bandage.
