Nintendo Switch eShop Servers Are Back Up And Running

On Christmas Day, the servers that support the Nintendo Switch eShop and other online components went down, adding to Nintendo’s known “Christmas Tradition.” However, now they are back up and running!

Nintendo warned earlier this week that the Switch platform’s servers would likely struggle all weekend due to the large number of individuals who would likely shut down the network. Unfortunately, Nintendo’s idea turned out to be correct, so many new Switch owners aren’t making the mistake of using the Internet today.

Nintendo quickly turned to Twitter to alert Switch users that the eShop, in particular, had stopped working for many customers.

Nintendo issued an official statement on Twitter, saying the following:

We know that players are experiencing errors in their access to Nintendo eShop, and are working on a solution to this issue as soon as possible; thank you for understanding. We know players are experiencing errors at Nintendo eShop and are working on getting the problem fixed as soon as possible. Thanks for understanding, and please see our Network Status page.

Furthermore, your mileage may have varied when it came to being able to connect to the Nintendo Switch eShop. Even though a significant number of Switch users appeared to be having these issues, some folks were able to connect without much difficulty. Finally, the issue was that so many new Switch users sought a single moment to begin playing the Nintendo game somehow.

Today’s cheapest Nintendo Switch model had the same problem. Regardless of these issues, players of the Nintendo 3DS and even the Nintendo Wii U were likely to experience the same issues. Because the eShop is available on all of these systems, albeit in various modes, the issues may persist across all hardware.

Luckily, the company was quick to resolve the issue. It’s all fine now!

According to Nintendo’s Network Maintenance Information/Operational Status page, the eShop servers are fully operational after experiencing some issues on Christmas.
