A user often has enough RAM and CPU but waits for the disk read/write operation to finish. Essentially, the latter acts as the limiting factor that disables the customer from moving forward with a process.
As the drive read and write speed (measured in IOPS) slows down the performance of a VPS, aims to eliminate this frustration for its users. Better yet, it does so at best-in-class prices.
In general, the NVMe drives offer up to 10x performance more than SSD drives.
chose Samsung-manufactured NVMe drives as they have an excellent performance-purchase price ratio. They offer around 1,000,000 Random Read IOPS. In comparison, the previously used SSDs showed a performance in the range of 100,000 IOPS.In other words, the NVMe upgrade will load websites and execute database queries faster. It will further speed up Windows on remote desktops.
Thomas Noglik, who serves the role of a CEO at Contabo, had this to say:
Our goal is to delight customers with the speed of their VPS while keeping the entry price under $7. We have noticed that most customers would benefit greatly from faster disks while most don’t need all the storage capacity VPS SSD has to offer. That is why we decided to offer a smaller but much faster drive at the same price. We are adding additional flexibility: you can choose by faster NVMe storage or larger SSD drive. There is even an option to pay a dollar or two more for additional NVMe space.
With the new NVMe drives, users will benefit from the additional performance, whether they host websites, run e-commerce software or operate databases on their VPS.
Some customers even got a chance to test the new NVMe VPS during closed beta, and they are pretty enthusiastic.
Daljeet Kumar, a Contabo customer from India, had this to say:
I would never expect so much performance from a €4.99 VPS. The disk space is smaller, but it’s absolutely sufficient. At the same time, I like that I can choose the drive type every time I buy a new VPS.
As a customer, you can choose the NVMe drives by default for VPS S, VPS M, VPS L, or VPS XL models. Furthermore, you can buy additional NVMe storage for a small extra fee when ordering their new or get larger SSD drives at no extra cost.
For instance, the VPS XL plan offers 10 CPU Cores, 60 GB RAM, 400 GB NVMe Storage, or 1.6 TB Alternative SSD Storage.
