StartLogic is a mid-sized hosting company, claiming to have around 100,000 customers. They were started by the same person who started iPower hosting, and they were also bought by Endurance International Group, which is the largest parent company of hosting providers. They still operate mostly independently, however.
They focus on just shared and VPS hosting solutions, which are ideally configured for small to medium sized businesses. They have three packages for shared hosting and three for VPS which is a good number as it gives plenty of choices without making it too confusing.
Overall they do a very good job of providing good hosting to their target audience. They have their data center in Boston, MA, and it is well maintained to provide good, reliable hosting.
Uptime & Reliability
Stable hosting with no SLA or uptime guarantee
StartLogic doesn’t offer any sort of uptime guarantee or anything, which is not uncommon for hosting companies that are owned by Endurance International Group. Even without the guarantees, however, they do provide good hosting. Few people have complained about the reliability of their sites with this host, other than the occasional unhappy customer, which will come up with any host.
Features
Nice set of features for most sites.
There is nothing that they really offer that makes them stand out from the crowd, but there is really nothing missing either. They do operate a very nice data center, which offers redundant power, firewalls and other benefits. They don’t own the data center, however, but only take advantage of its services.
The shared hosting is Linux only for entry level, but then you can opt for Windows or Linux. VPS allows you to choose either option at all levels. All the VPS packages also come with one dedicated IP address, which is a feature that many other hosting companies charge for.
Support
24/7 telephone and live chat support
You’ll get 24/7 live support either through a chat program or their toll-free phone line. When you get in touch with the support team they are able to fix most common issues very quickly. More advanced issues can take a little longer according to some user reports, but they get them fixed at some point. In addition to being skilled, the support team also seems to care about getting good results.
Pricing
Industry average pricing for all package options
The pricing is about average for all their package options. They do offer a 30 day money back guarantee, minus any domain names you may have gotten free when signing up. If you surrender the domain name, however, you can get credit back for that too, which is quite nice. Overall, the pricing policy here is fair and you get what you pay for.
Summary
This hosting is good in basically all areas, but great in none
Like many of the EIG owned hosting companies, there isn’t much that sets this company apart either for the good or the bad. They offer nice hosting services at a fair price, but do little else to really ‘wow’ the customers. That isn’t always a bad thing though since many people are only looking for these types of basic services.
Pros:
- Easy to understand hosting options
- VPS plans come with a free IP
- Money back guarantee includes domain if you don’t keep it
Cons:
- No dedicated hosting packages
- Don’t own their own data centers
- Very similar services to other EIG companies
