One Gigabyte hosting has been in business since 2006, and they are focused on providing high quality shared hosting to their customers. Their website does say that they have dedicated servers, but they are listed as out of stock, and from what I can find, that has been the case for quite some time. It seems likely that they are just not offering that as a service anymore.
The company is located in Sacramento, California and they are a subsidiary of SPH Enterprizes, LLC. In addition to the hosting services, they also do web development and app development for their clients. It seems, however, that this hosting is provided to anyone, even if they don’t use their other services.
For those who just need basic shared hosting services, this is not a bad company to consider. They have been around for quite some time and the services they offer are all nice and at a fair price. In addition, it would be nice to have the additional services available when you need them.
Uptime & Reliability
Hosting seems to be quite stable
One Gigabyte hosting offers a 100% server uptime guarantee, which is nice. If you do have any downtime, they will compensate you for the time it was unavailable. Keep in mind this is only server downtime, so if you have a problem with your software or something like that, it does not apply.
I was not able to find many current or former customers of this company making comments one way or the other regarding the stability of their hosting. In most cases, however, shared hosting is pretty stable and the only concern is the site load speeds.
Features
Standard shared hosting services
When you sign up for hosting you’ll get access to all the standard shared hosting services. You can choose from a 1, 2 or 5 gig plan for disk space, which comes with 100, 200 or 500 gigs respectively. You’ll also get unlimited MySQL databases, FTP accounts, email addresses, subdomains and add-on domains with all their hosting packages.
cPanel is included with the hosting and they offer only Linux based operating systems, which is fairly standard with shared hosting today. You will have access to a variety of one-click installation scripts and the hosting is sped up through the CloudFlare system.
Support
24/7 live support provided
The support provided by this company is quite good. They are on staff 24/7 to respond to any type of outage or other customer issue. This is very nice from a company that doesn’t have this as their only focus.
They also have a nice knowledge base available so you can look through on how to do things so you can avoid outages. Overall, the support is quite good from this company.
Pricing
Typical shared hosting price points
The pricing structure with this company is very simple. It is $5 for the entry level hosting, then $10 for mid-level and $15 for their highest level hosting packages. While these aren’t really that great of deals, they aren’t out of line with the average pricing either. Most people with this company seem to be happy with the level of service they get for the price.
Summary
Good hosting with few frills
Overall this company seems to provide fairly good hosting. If you think you may use some of their other services such as app development or web design, then you should absolutely consider usign them as your hosting provider too. If not, they may still be a good choice if you want shared hosting.
