This is a hosting company that is based in Russia. They claim on their website to be, ‘one of the top 10 Russian hosting providers’ which may or may not give you confidence in them. The company has been in business since 2004 and they offer a wide range of different hosting services including shared, VPS, dedicated and more. They also have software licensing, domain registration and more. The company’s website has a somewhat outdated look and feel to it but it is functional and you can get around without a problem.
If you use this company for hosting you will join more than 30,000 other people who they provide their services too. McHost has received several awards and as of the time of this writing they have a 100% uptime rating from host-tracker. Overall, you’ll likely be pretty happy with the level of service you get with this company. One more thing to note, they are based in Russia but they also have servers in Europe and the USA.
Uptime & Reliability
Very Reliable Hosting
Everything I can find about this company suggests that they do a good job with stability. Most of their hardware is housed in other company’s data centers, so that may give some people pause but this is a common practice with web hosting. Host-tracker ranked them as 100% uptime so that is definitely a good sign. They also use high quality hardware, including SSDs, so that can help contribute to a good stable service. I did not see any uptime guarantee though.
Features
Nice List of Features
If you’re looking for shared hosting you will have three tiers to choose from. These options start at 2 gigs of disk space (SSD!) and go up to 12. You are limited on the number of sites you can host (3, 10 and 25 depending on the package) and the same number of databases. They limit you specifically to the max CPU load on your server, which is an interesting way of doing business with shared hosting, and something I think I like. The max load for the base package is 12.5% and it goes up to 50% for the highest level of service. It is not clear how many people they put on each server.
With VPS you will have four options to choose from. These to use SSD and range from 10 to 200 gigs. They guarantee a set amount of CPU and RAM and it is all reasonable. This company also lists how much SWAP room you’ll have available, something most companies don’t identify so that is nice (though not of much practical use). You do get a dedicated IP with any VPS package.
Looking at their dedicated servers they really don’t lay out a list of what you can choose from. They have one base model and then it cna be customized from there. This base model uses an Intel Xeon E3-1230 CPU, 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM and 2 SATA2 hard drives at 1 TB each. You can upgrade to SSD if you would like. They have a list of different operating systems that can be installed on your server, which is nice. They also allow you to choose where you want the server hosted including Russia, US, Netherlands or Germany.
Support
Excellent Response Times
The tech teams are available 24/7 including holidays. They say that they respond to all support requests within 10 minutes, which is very impressive. They also make it clear that their tech teams speak Russian so that is something you’ll definitely want to know, whether it is a good thing or bad. Looking at social media and other pages it seems people are quite happy with the level of support they got from McHost.
Pricing
Reasonable Pricing
The pricing for shared hosting starts at $42.24 per year and goes up from there. You can switch to monthly payments once you get to higher level hosting packages. This pricing is right in line with what you would expect to pay for the level of service you are getting. As you move up in hosting power your price will go up but it does stay right in line with industry averages.
Summary
Overall Nice Hosting
The hosting is really quite nice. They are clearly targeting a Russian audience with Russian tech support and things like that. This is obviously a good thing for those who speak the language, but it will be a challenge for those who don’t so keep that in mind. McHost has been in business for over 10 years and have a good reputation so if you’re looking for a Russian hosting company to work with, you’ll likely be very happy with this one.
