LankanHost.com is based in Sri Lanka and was founded in 2005 with the goal “to provide high quality web hosting solutions with low prices to all our customers”. They seem to have been able to live up to that promise from what I can find. While there isn’t too many other reviews or or comments that I was able to find from actual users, what I did see was overall positive.
Uptime & Reliability
Good Reliable Hosting
While there were no statistics available (as is usual for hosting companies) on the web page, offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee. However, on the “order” page the terms show a 99.5% guarantee, a substantial difference. With the redundancy in communications circuits listed, it would appear, as in virtually every situation, that local conditions would be the weakest link in the connection in regards to providing uptime and service delivery.
Features
Nice Features
While LankanHost is a Sri Lankan operated business, all servers are located in a data center in the United States. The organization provides great detail on the reliability and redundancy built into their operations.
The LankanHost data center has a positive air flow which keeps dust and particulates out and all cabinets are equipped with two fans to circulate the air. All servers are connected by a 2.5 GB/second network cards. The servers are Xeon quad-core with 4 GB of ram and 3 different hard drives in a RAID configuration to provide maximum performance and availability. Each server also has swappable power supplies to keep uptime at a maximum.
LankanHost has partnered with Qwest telecommunications to provide redundancy in connectivity world-wide, the map on the network page displays multiple routes spanned across US, Europe, Malaysia, Australia, Hong Kong, China and Japan.
Domain hosting is listed as a service with an estimate of the different timelines listed for activation as well as how long it will take a new site to be listed by Google; the site claims 14 days or less.
Support
Limited Live Support Hours
Customers are able to reach support by submitting an email, phone or a live chat feature. Despite the 24/7 hours displayed on several pages, the live chat displayed “Offline, leave a message” Also, there were two phone numbers, one for 8-5 pm and another 24/7; the email template posted on the site said that it was disabled and to contact an email address.
Pricing
Very Low Prices
At first, I thought that the prices listed were incorrect as a result of the translation, but the native language page didn’t change prices.
Web hosting prices start as low as 50 Sri Lankan Rupees; this translates to $.38 USD per month with a 12-month minimum. This basic package includes 100 MB of disk space and 2 GB of bandwidth but does not include the free website builder tool offered on the other packages. This package includes hosting 1 domain, 10 subdomains and 1 MySQL database.
The next plan is offered at 100 SLR, ($.76 USD) and increases disk space to 2 GB, 10 GB of traffic, 3 domains, and 10 MySQL databases. The “small business” plan retails at 200 SLR ($1.02 USD) and provides 5 GB of space, 20 GB of traffic, and 20 databases. The top-rated plan is 500 SLR ($3.78 USD) and comes with 10 GB of disk space, 50 GB of traffic, and 1000 databases.
Summary
Good Discount Hosting with Some Concern
LankanHost appears to be a viable hosting concern with low prices. However, I was a little concerned by the error messages I received when trying to access the sample web page builder, as well as a link under the “products” page that referenced itself. Another concern was that the FAQ page only had a few very simple questions with short answers as compared to many companies that have a very robust section geared towards customers answering their own questions to reduce their downtime.
Pros:
- Very Low Prices
- Multiple Data Connections
- Nice Data Center
Cons:
- No Detailed List of Services
- Some Pages have Errors
