Slow and unreliable

Seems to have got slower and slower despite me upgrading my package. I suspect there has been no upgrade at all. Site often goes down. I think Heart are the worst providers I've used.

I manage to log in to the old account to find an invoice they had created with no notification 3 years ago (3 years after the business ceased trading and account closed). The account was locked out of everything else so I queried the invoice. This has resulted in several days of back and forth where they have refused to answer why they created the invoice, why they didn't tell me about it when created, how they got my personal email address. They refuse to confirm that the invoice has been cancelled and refuse to close the account and remove all my details as is my right under GDPR. Do not ever sign up to these cowboys.Less

I called up and spoke to a sales rep for a lengthy period on the phone. I got my card out a paid for a year. Days later I became poorly and when I recovered I called up to cancel and he found a way of convincing me to accept an extension of two months to think about it. I wish I had checked these reviews, I would not be wasting my time and health in fighting to recover my money. I never logged on to any of the products until today when I read their T&Cs and realise their errors. Two months have elapsed from the day the extension was given and as per their T&Cs, I have 30 days to cancel. They accepted cancellation but no refund of a years payment. Corporate thieves like these need to be challenged to stop the hard selling and cloak themselves with a bit of human decency. Reading these experiences just makes me look like a daft; why did I not check the reviews? Should I suffer because of my stupidity or the other party has that responsibility to be able to come out honestly and say “this is not for you”? No ethical decency but profits without due care! I will not let this slip! I have dealt with GoDaddy and they behaved well and I had no problem in getting back my money. This is going to look like a David & Goliath battle. I pray they bring their lawyers they will pay £400.00 an hour to defend my under £500 claim. Their attitude yesterday just gave me a sleepless night!Less

Terrible Service

Heart Internet suffer from a lot of things, mainly connectivity and being black listed by most mail services, ie Hotmail, AOl, Gmail etc.

Downtime is sporadic and mostly a rare thing, but when it happend they will LIE to you. C...Read Moreurrently I have been suffering downtime for the last 3 weeks. Each time their support staff lie. They point to the problemt being my sites. I have been sent links to the sort of SEO report pages you get that showed my site had large images, a total load of 6mb which was a red flag, and they gave that as the reson the server was down. They also said that I had too many sql connections, when the site has done well under the same conditions for 8 years, but when I also couldn't ftp in they lied again and said that they had been a glitch with the ftp. THey then said that they could not keep rebooting the server everytime I got too many sql connections. However, I checked other sites on the same IP and THEY WERE ALL DOWN TOO. Essentially the support staff lie. I imagine that they have been trained to lie in as much as they dont want to admit outages and so the staff just have to point at anything that might cause it. However, when they are dealing with a person like me that has been working the internet for 20 years, it doesn't cut the mustard. I videos a form taking 35 seconds to load, and that was just a random form, ie I did a video that ran for an hour that was plagued by slowness and that was a random bit of slowlness and I am sure some processes took over a minute to do. Then said it was my code and it was very php heavy on the cpu and they could not do anything about it. I transfered my site to another host and the same form took less than a second, it was instant. THe sinsiter issue though is that they lie and I am convinced they are trained to lie and obfuscate the issues. Most people will not be able to see through their lies. In one support ticket they advised that I speak to my developer. Essentially, Heart intenet should be struck off. I personally think that they are trying to drive people away and then sell out or change. They were brought out by Go Daddy and maybe Go Daddy wants to shut it down so that people move to other more centralised hosts. THe thing is though, that this LYING has been going on for years. I remember being forced to buy a VPS because my site had 50 hits a day. They said that it was a victim of its own success. THe VPS was expensive and they refused to support it or provide help. The issue with hosts like Heart Internet is sinister because there is no control. If BT lied, you could contact the regulator, but Heart Internet can lie as much as they want and there is no complaints procedure. I tried. THey don't prosecute themselves. I would like to say avoid Heart Internet, but I think the truth is darker than it appears. For example, I was once asked if O2 was a good phone company, and my responce, as I had had a very bad time with them was that I had had a bad time, but I dount everyone did. What I mean is that these things are often targetted or isolated, or in my case with O2, from memory, down to the person that I was dealing with and a personality clash. I guess lots of people with Heart wont notice, but if you are a web designer like me, you don't want constant called complaining about one server or another, black listed emails and worst of all, support agents that suggest your code is bad. I mean, suggesting your code is really bad, bad enough to drag a server down. Its not.

When you consider that Heart Internet is not cheap, I would advise everyone to go elsewhere, you won't get a service any worse. You might have similar issues, but it won't be much worse. Much worse would be that a site was permanently down all the time.

Absolutely dire since GoDaddy took over Host Europe -

I moved to HI in Oct 2008 from the atrocious service received from UK2.net.

HI were absolutely top-notch, although a tad on the pricey side, and as a Reseller on the odd occasion I needed to contact support. A response was alwa...Read Moreys obtained within 30 minutes and by someone with a British name. Then up popped the dreaded GoDaddy about 3 years ago which took over the whole Host Europe portfolio. As a full Reseller one would have thought that HI would have had the common decency to advise us that GoDaddy was the parent organisation, but no, they did not, and one can only guess the reason why. Then, support requests were going in so often, it could take hours & hours to get a response, that I'd forget about the support requests as running the hosting alongside the website design business was becoming all to time consuming.

The support requests eventually were answered but all the names of the support operatives were Eastern Europeans, who I have absolutely no issue at all with, they have some excellent coders, but it became quite clear that HI (GoDaddy) have trimmed down their UK based support team, or fired them all off.

I've been in the hosting / website caper since 1997 and I can honestly say that the last 3 years with HI were abysmal. In fact one would probably prefer a dose of gout !!!

ADVICE FOR NEWBIES LOOKING FOR WEBSITE HOSTING - reliability of the platform comes joint first position with the level / quality of support.

I hoofed HI last December but before I did I made sure that the new platform I use is top notch, so I ran a new account with the new hosting company for a full 12 months just to make sure I was happy with them. No regrets whatsoever ! In the time since I moved ALL my customers off HI up to writing this review only 2 of my customers have had an issue and one of them was 'self-inflicted' and the other was a slight hicup at the hosting company I use, but was sorted within 15 minutes.

Great services and reliable hosting for all customer types

Heart Internet offers many great hosting options to choose from, including reseller hosting, VPS or dedicated servers.  They have been around for quite a long time.  They were purchased by Host Europe Group, which is the largest privately held hosting company in the EU.  They do operate mostly independently, however, with just the backing of the larger company for support.

This hosting company was founded when several top employees of Webfusion broke away to start their own hosting company.  These were individuals who started the reseller hosting option, so they really provide a lot of great features in this area.

Their Linux-based shared hosting is well maintained, which is very important.  Many hosting companies that have VPS and dedicated options really only put shared hosting out as an afterthought, but that is not the case here.

Overall, this is a great UK based hosting company that can meet the needs of virtually any sized website.

Great uptime guarantees for VPS & Dedicated packages

If you sign up for a VPS package you will be given a 99.99% uptime SLA.  For the dedicated servers, you get a 99.9% uptime guarantee.  Both of these are great, and reflect the fact that they have put a lot of work into their data center, the hardware and the software as well.  In the event that they don’t meet these SLAs, they will provide you with a credit on your account for a full day’s service for each hour beyond 4 hours that your site is down.

While the shared hosting packages don’t come with any type of guarantee, they also don’t experience much down time at all.  Customers are generally happy with their reliability at every level.


Lots of great free and premium features available

In addition to all the standard features that you would expect from a hosting company, they also offer a variety of great little extras.  Based on the hosting package you choose, there will be a long list of features that come included.  Things like picture gallerias, automatic backups, and much more.

You can also pay extra for things like dedicated IP addresses, premium email boxes with extra storage and more.  They really make it easy to get exactly what you need from their services.

They also provide initial setup options where they can help get your site up and running quickly and easily, which is perfect for non-techie people who are just starting up a new website.


Great support but no phone option

The technical support provided by Heart Internet is actually quite good.  The one major problem with it, however, is that they don’t offer a call in number.  You have to work with their online ticketing option in order to get service.  Many people, especially those with higher end hosting needs, like having the ability to call in and speak directly with the support techs.

In addition to their online ticketing system, they also have very active social media accounts where they can provide help when needed.  When working with techs on social media or through their official ticketing system, they are very competent and can fix most issues very quickly.

Heart Internet hosting offers some of the best prices for their hosting at all the levels. From an entry level package that is under 3 Euros per month all the way up to their dedicated servers.  When you look at all the different features that you’re getting at each level, it is easy to see just what a great deal they are offering.
