Domhost is a Maharashtra, India-based company that offers a wide array of services, with a target audience of business and enterprise users but also has discount packages available to the amateur user or small business.
Uptime & Reliability
No guarantees, but good services
One of the few items that I was unable to find on the Domhost site was an uptime guarantee. I was also concerned by the checkbox in the “daily backup” graphic on the hosting page, but then under the Terms of Service (TOS) it plainly states that users are “are advised to maintain website and database backup on their home computers or….” and that the company is not responsible for restoration of these items as well as email. While I understand that this could apply to resellers, I don’t understand why backup is included, or even listed, with hosting services if it doesn’t include website and database backup.
Features
Lots of different services offered
Web hosting, domain registration, and re-seller services are the key components for Domhost. Virtual Private Server (VPS) for both Windows and Linux are also offered, as is a Java Linux hosting plans. Web page design services are available, with a 3-day turnaround time offered.
Allowances are listed to help customers find the correct allotment of space and traffic to suit their needs. For instance, the base web hosting package consists of 1 email address, 1 GB of disk space, 60 GB of bandwidth, 5 GB of email storage, 2 FTP accounts and 1GB of cloud storage; the “diamond” package increases service to10 GB of disk space, 600 GB of bandwidth, and 5 email addresses.
VPS hosting starts with 512 GB of RAM, 20 GB of storage and 1 IPv4 address and 2 IPv6 addresses and 1 TB bandwidth per month. For the “diamond” VPS package, RAM is increased to 2 GB, storage to 150 GB, and bandwidth to 2 TB monthly. Another important note is that the CPU for the entry level is rated at 1 Ghz, with the diamond CPU being rated at 2.5 Ghz.
Support
Excellent self help and technical support
Domhost has a very robust customer support page with a search feature, online ticketing, and chat. Phone support is restricted to customers paying for that specific service. While I agree with this to a point, offering at least cursory phone support to anyone is always a plus. These services are listed as 24/7/365. There is also a link that allows customers to check the status of their existing tickets. While they would need to be verified by the potential customer, numerous testimonials support Domhost’s claims of quality service and support.
Pricing
Reasonable pricing for what you get
As with any hosting company, charges are increased as the level of services provided or size of allotments increased.
VPS service packages start at 2100 Rupees ($33.45 USD) per month and go up to 3900 R ($62.12 USD) per month.
Hosting packages are listed from 1000 R ($15.63 USD) and reach 3500 R ($55.75 USD) per year; pre-payment is the only option available which is more than reasonable. Re-seller opportunities start at 1800 R ($28.67) monthly.
Domhost makes it clear that special requirements are readily available and only a phone call away.
Summary
Very flexible hosting options
With such a variety of service offerings, Domhost appears to have “something for everyone” from the beginner to the advanced developer, reseller, or organization looking to have an outside firm host their website or maintain their VPS needs at reasonable rates.
While I think that Domhost has much to offer, potential customers would be wise to seek clarification of the policies before developing or transferring content to their operation; but this is true for any customer and any hosting company.
Pros:
- Lots of different options
- Reasonable pricing
Cons:
- Data backup is the responsibility of the customer
- Uptime statistics are not listed
