Contabo currently operates data centers across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. I went through the full signup process to document exactly where those locations are, what each one costs, and what latency you can expect because Contabo shows you that number in real time before you commit.
Full Contabo Data Center Location List
Contabo operates data centers across nine regions worldwide:
Europe
- European Union (Hub Europe)
- United Kingdom (Portsmouth)
America
- United States East (New York)
- United States Central (St. Louis)
- United States West (Seattle)
Asia
- Singapore
- Japan
- India
Australia
- Sydney

That is the complete list as of 2026. All nine locations are available for Cloud VPS and Cloud VDS plans. Dedicated server availability varies by location, so check the configuration page for your specific product during signup.
Contabo Shows You Latency Before You Sign Up
This is one of the more useful things about the Contabo configuration experience.
When you reach the Region selection step during server setup, the interface measures your latency to each available location in real time and displays the exact millisecond figure before you choose anything.

Most providers show you a list of city names and leave you to figure out which is fastest from where you are. Contabo shows you the number. That makes the decision considerably easier and removes the need to run your own ping tests before purchasing.
The region selector is organized into five tabs: Best, Europe, America, Asia, and Australia. The Best tab highlights the lowest-latency option detected from your current connection automatically, marked with a blue “Recommended” label.
Do All Contabo Locations Cost the Same?
No. The European Union location is included at no extra cost with every plan. Every other region carries a small monthly location fee on top of your base plan price.
The fee exists because operating infrastructure outside the EU costs more. Electricity, cooling, data center space, and staffing are all more expensive in locations like New York, Singapore, and Sydney compared to Contabo’s home facilities in Germany.

The location fee is flat regardless of which plan you choose. It does not scale with your server size. Whether you are on a Cloud VPS 10 or a Cloud VPS 40, the fee for your chosen region stays the same.
Here is what each region adds to your monthly bill:
| Region | Location Fee |
| European Union | Free |
| United Kingdom | $1.80/month |
| United States Central | $1.80/month |
| United States West | $2.30/month |
| United States East | $2.80/month |
| Asia India | $4.20/month |
| Asia Singapore | $4.40/month |
| Asia Japan | $4.50/month |
| Australia Sydney | $3.70/month |
What to Expect From Contabo’s Infrastructure
Contabo uses identical hardware and network equipment across every data center worldwide. The same server blueprint, rack layout, switches, routers, and cooling setup that runs their German facilities runs their New York, Singapore, and Sydney locations.
This is deliberate, and it has a practical implication for you: the performance you get at one Contabo location is a reliable indicator of what you will get at another.
Differences between regions come from network routing and geographic distance, not from varying hardware quality.
Every Contabo data center, regardless of location, includes:
- At least two independent fiber connections for network redundancy
- N+1 redundant cooling systems
- CCTV and physical access control
- Contabo staff on the ground 24/7, 365 days a year
- Free cooling or groundwater cooling where available to reduce energy costs
That last point matters more than it might seem. Running their own staff in every location rather than outsourcing to local contractors is how Contabo maintains the same standards in Seattle and Sydney that they do in Munich.
How to Choose the Right Location
The right location is the one physically closest to the majority of your visitors. Server location directly affects Time to First Byte, which feeds into your Core Web Vitals scores and how search engines evaluate your site’s speed.
Your visitors are primarily in Germany, the EU, or Central Europe
The European Union location is the obvious choice and carries no location fee. This is Contabo’s most established infrastructure and gives you low-latency access across the EU at no additional cost.
Your visitors are primarily in the UK
The United Kingdom location at $1.80 per month puts your server in Portsmouth, England. For a UK-focused site, the latency improvement over routing through the EU makes the fee worthwhile.
Your visitors are primarily on the US East Coast
US East (New York) at $2.80 per month is the fastest option for East Coast visitors and the most direct for major metropolitan areas including New York, Boston, Washington D.C., and Miami.
Your visitors are spread across the United States
US Central (St. Louis) at $1.80 per month is the most cost-effective US location and serves the broadest geographic spread of American traffic. It is the same price as the UK location and a better choice for sites without a clear coastal bias.
Your visitors are primarily on the US West Coast
US West (Seattle) at $2.30 per month covers West Coast audiences including California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.
Your visitors are primarily in Southeast Asia
Singapore at $4.40 per month is Contabo’s most established Asian location and the best-connected hub for Southeast Asian traffic covering Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and broader ASEAN markets. It is also recommended by Contabo’s own latency detection for most Asian connections.
Your visitors are primarily in Japan or East Asia
Asia Japan at $4.50 per month serves Japanese and broader East Asian audiences with a dedicated node rather than routing through Singapore.
Your visitors are primarily in India or South Asia
Asia India at $4.20 per month is the most affordable of the three Asian options and the correct choice for Indian audiences specifically.
Your visitors are primarily in Australia or New Zealand
Australia (Sydney) at $3.70 per month is the only Oceania option and covers both markets from a single location.
Your audience is genuinely global
No single Contabo location serves every region equally well. For a truly global audience, the EU location gives you the lowest base cost, and pairing it with a CDN for static asset delivery reduces the latency gap for visitors in other regions without adding a location fee.
Can You Change Location After Signing Up?
Yes, with one condition. Contabo allows you to migrate a Cloud VPS or Virtual Dedicated Server to a different region from your control panel under Your Services, provided the server does not have additional SSDs attached.
Bare metal dedicated servers cannot be migrated between locations.
If you ordered the wrong location or your audience has shifted, the migration option is available without needing to purchase a new server.
Which Products Are Available at Each Location?
The full location list above applies to Contabo’s Cloud VPS and Cloud VDS products.
Dedicated servers are available at select locations. Object Storage pricing and availability also varies by region.
When configuring any Contabo product, the region selector during signup will show exactly which locations are available for that specific product type.
Final Thoughts
If you are unsure which location to choose, use the Best tab during configuration.
Contabo measures your actual connection latency and highlights the recommended option automatically. For most users, that is all the guidance you need.
