CenturyLink is one of the larger telecom companies in America serving millions of customers. They are not well known for providing web hosting, but for large customers looking to have their websites hosted and managed offsite, they do offer the service. They will put your server into their own data centers and manage the hardware and network connections for you. This is an excellent option for growing businesses that don’t want to have to have a dedicated IT staff working on their website, but still need a quality experience for your customers.
Uptime & Reliability
Extremely Reliable Hosting
The reliability really can’t get much better than this. CenturyLink is a multi-billion dollar company that specializes in data communications work. With that in mind, you’ll be on their network and in their data centers. Of course, this means you’ll be getting the fast and reliable services that they are well known for.
CenturyLink doesn’t have pre-defined packages like most other hosting providers. Instead, you will work directly with an account rep to ensure you are getting the exact services you need. This is essential for anyone who needs a high end hosting experience like is being offered. Of course, it can be a hassle to negotiate each feature that you need, but once done you will be left with a great service.
For most people, however, this is not going to be the right option. If you’re looking for shared hosting or VPS options, for example, they can’t help you. The features offered are tailored specifically for larger corporations so if you’re just running a simple site, this is not the right solution for you.
Not surprisingly, you’ll get good support from CenturyLink. In fact, they can handle all the hardware and data center work that needs to be done. You’ll be responsible for the actual content of your site, but when it comes to supporting the actual hosting, they do a great job.
You’ll get a price based on the services you need. They don’t have set prices for packages or anything like that. For large corporations, the prices will be negotiated at the time you sign up and then you’ll pay for them from there. This is obviously not how most hosting companies work so if you don’t want to deal with this type of hassle, you’ll have to find another option. Most large companies that would use this hosting solution, however, are very familiar with this type of thing.
Perfect for Large Corporations
If you’re looking for hosting for a very large corporation, this might be the right solution. If you’re just looking for traditional hosting options, this is definately not the right choice for you. One nice thing about CenturyLink is there is really no middle ground. Either they are a great option or they are way out of your range.
Centurylink's customer service is so terrible that I would rather slam my fingers in a car door than have to call them. I recently tried to schedule an installation of Centurylink's internet service in my home. I had originally scheduled the installation for a Wednesday, but promptly discovered that the Wednesday was not open. I thought it might not be too hard to fix the problem because the representative I'd been speaking to promised that he would send me an email with my customer number, and I could simply reply to that. I never received the email he promised, and thus did not have my customer number. So, I called Centurylink to get the installation date moved, it took forever to get a hold of a human being (their electronic system didn't have options to accommodate my particular problem), spoke with a representative, who then transferred me to a different representative, who then said that he had moved the appointment to Friday for me. Two days later, I received a call from Centurylink confirming with me that the appointment was moved. On the Wednesday in question, I received a call from someone working for Centurylink saying that he was ready to perform the install and was trying to get a hold of me. I cancelled the so-called "service," because I have no intention of paying $60 per month for the torture of having to deal with such utter incompetence and poor customer-service.
Worse yet, I had previously been a Centurylink customer once before (you'd think I would have learned my lesson). During my first time with Centurylink, they told me the monthly price was going to be one thing, then started progressively sending me larger and larger bills each month with no explanation for why they were so high. When I called customer service and managed to get through to someone they fixed it for me and promised that it would never happen again. It happened again. And again. I might not have cared much about the billing problems if it weren't for the fact that customer service was so impossible to get a hold of. I think this charlatan company banks on that, knowing that they can charge their customers extra and up to a certain point the customers would rather just pay the extra money rather than have to deal with Centurylink "customer service."
Bah! They should pay US for what we go through to deal with their customer service. I hope this company either goes through a massive overhaul soon or simply goes under like it should. It is rotten, and there aren't enough hateful words in the English language to express how low my esteem for this company really is. There are only two ways I would EVER sign on with Centurylink again: 1. If I was offered a MASSIVE discount to make up for their poor service, or 2. If they underwent the affore-mentioned overhaul and fixed the issues with their customer service.
After 3 months of trying to get my plan changed to a lower cost plan, numerous phone calls and online chat, everyone promises the changes have been made and refunds are on the way. HA HA. NOT I've asked a few times to speak with a supervisor. Chad flat out refused, and Kevin put me on a dead hold over 30 minutes. Finally got a supe and he was argumentative, unwilling to help. I asked for his manager and was told he's the highest ranking individual there today. That's BS. Also, a representative for Centurylink FRAUDULENTLY changed my email, and placed orders for multiple new services and upgrades services I did not authorise and was unaware of until I got a phone call that centurylink was at my door ready to install the services and upgrades!! And of course I couldn't receive an email confirmation of the 'ordered' services because in inside representative changed the email. NO ONE at centurylink will discuss this fraudulent activity
Centurylink bills on 22nd of the month for our account, but we don't seem to get the bill till the 6th of the following month. That is from Seattle WA to Wyoming. Then it is due on the 14th. Numerous times they have sent a disconnect notice 3 days after the current bill is due and the disconnect threat is 10 days after the bill is due. This month and other months we don't even get the disconnect notice until the day of disconnect. Pretty hostile attitude for a business customer that has been with them over 20 years. It isn't a typical due date for our company to pay and very uncommon for a service to threaten disconnect so quickly after due date. When I called customer service to inquire which took forever to wade through the computer menu to get to talk to someone, the rep confirmed that is their policy and instead of saying they would look into why it takes so long to get our bills/notices from print date, he passed the buck to say they had no control what the post office does. Unfortunately, it may not be the postoffice that has the problem, so they don't want to improve their service
worst customer service I have ever encountered...from the very start to now canceling..too much down time. don't you read your reviews and try to improve? I live in an apt complex and will spread the word not to go with century link!!!!!
Agreed! Our last bill took 12 days to get from Seattle to Washington which gives a person 8 days to pay. (and probably as bad months before). Numerous times if the bill isn't paid exactly by due date, they send out disconnect 3 days later to disconnect within 10 days of current bill's due date. We don't even get the disconnect till the day of disconnect and customer service sees no problem with their hyperactive disconnect policy. I will never recommend someone use centurylink!
Want to speak with a Century link rep? FORGET IT! You either get put on hold for a half hour or get a foreign rep that is impossible to understand. Century Link wants to collect your money but make it extremely difficult to get support with issues. Good customer service must be a thing of the past
Same problem here with customer service, And a rep changed my email address, then ordered upgrades and additional services unknown to me until they showed up at my door. I initially called to change to a lower cost plan and I guess it pissed him off. Now I can't get the overages reimbursed. Have twice asked for a supervisor. The reps refuse and place me on an endless, dead air hold.
I have had the worst customer service from Century Link!!!! For 10 months now my exwife and this company have been going back and forth about our bill. I was being double charged for my service and my exwifes service. The customer service people that we both talked to multiple times were rude and totally uncaring. We finally got to talk to someone of authority and he found out I had double paid and it would take 3-4 weeks to be reimbursed. After all time they say I still owe $185. No refund!!!
I am now experiencing the same problem with billing errors. Customer service reps are rude and refuse to transfer to a supe. Finally got a supe today after over 30 minutes of dead air. The supe was also unfriendly! We'll see if he follows through with the refund. My hopes are not high but I will fight them to the end
I cancelled century link paid my final bill 6 month's later I get billed again they tell me they were billing me on some e-mail address that I never gave them for billing my bill's always came by paper mail I feel they blackmailed me with threats to make me pay bill's I never saw and never used century after I cancelled I finally got one customer service rep to fix it month later I get billed again DON'T USE CENTURY LINK
