AlojamientoTico is one of Costa Rica’s leading and most affordable web hosting providers. They have gathered clients all over North and South America since their founding in 2006, building a strong reputation known for exceptional service, high quality, and fully featured web hosting provider. They are virtually an all-in-one shop, offering services ranging from shared hosting to domain registration, as well as SSL certificates, business e-mail, dedicated servers, and much more.
While they are based in Costa Rica, their data center is leased in Atlanta, GA. They also have external backups that they do for free on all plans, keeping your data safe, something I always like. Secure, encrypted backups of your account is sent to servers in Washington D.C. and London, making sure that even in case of physical damage to our data center, your information is safe. In addition, they offer a commitment of a 99.9% uptime guarantee, with staff constantly monitoring the servers throughout day and night to ensure they are running to their maximum capability. Their Zendesk account seems to be expired, which is not something I like seeing.
They have plans that you classify based on your desired payment schedule: monthly, annual, bi-annual, and tri-annual payment plans. All of their shared hosting runs CloudLinux, and disk space ranges on plans from 1 to 10GB, while bandwidth is only 10 to 50GB monthly, depending on the plan. All plans are also limited in add-on domains, anywhere from zero to 18. Free domain name with 1 year-plus purchase of any upper-level plan is also included. For most of their shared plans, they also severely limit e-mail accounts, FTP accounts, MySQL databases, and more. If you’re interested in reseller plans, they come with anywhere form 50 to 120GB of disk space and 500 to 750gb of bandwidth. Thankfully you get unlimited everything else, including cPanel accounts and your own DNS name servers. They have some nice dedicated servers, all running on Quad Core 3.4GHz CPU’s with 16GB of RAM, and all of them have 10 terabytes of bandwidth. You can add cPanel or WHM, though they mention nothing about paying for RAM, HD, or bandwidth upgrades. Another service they offer is 128kbps radio streaming, all plans with a minimum of 100gb bandwidth and 150 listeners, as well as autoDJ disk space and your selection of Icecast or Shoutcast, all while using the feature-rich Centova Cast panel that comes preinstalled on all orders.
They have an awesome, custom-built knowledge base that includes dozens if not hundreds of articles, video tutorials, and much more. In addition, they have a live chat and social media network you can use to contact them, in addition to a Costa Rica-based telephone number that you can contact throughout local business hours. That’s obviously in addition to the ticket support system that they mostly use for anything ranging from technical support to billing to sales questions.
They don’t have a monthly option fro the basic plan (the one with 1GB disk space, 10GB bandwidth, and 2 mySQL databases), but for a yearly rate it only comes out to about $2.03 per month (25 yearly). There are also additional discounts if you get two or three years as part of your plan. They do sell the intermediate plan for $5.99 per month, but you can bring that down to $3.75 with a yearly purchase. The “pure vida”/maximum plan costs either $14.95 per month $135 per year (11.25 monthly). The reseller plans costs between $24.95 per month to $44.95 per month, though you can save about $2 per month on each plan if you get the yearly amount. Their dedicated servers are all similarly priced, with very few differences between them. They range $199 to $229 per month, though you must contact them before you can order one. Meanwhile, their radio streaming options cost anywhere from $15 to $35 per month, with similar yearly discounts, which is also pretty competitive with even US-based hosting providers.
I definitely like AlojamientoTico’s prices for their hosting services. None of their plans are extremely expensive, anywhere on their website, whether shared, reseller, audio, or even dedicated servers. With that said, I think they can offer their shared hosting customers some more features. Even though it’s only $2 per month, you still have to purchase a year of it, and what is someone supposed to do with 1GB disk space? Or even for the more expensive plans, they should have more value. They do have reliable servers, but I would only purchase their plans if you speak Spanish, in order to not have any communication problems when you need support. Primarily, it’s a good purchase if you happen to be located in Costa Rica and need a good web host. Pros:
