The database is the vital part of your website and it's always recommended to keep the backup on your computer. Just like many users, you shouldn't totally rely on the web hosting.
If the code is injected into your website's data, it will also corrupt the backup done by your web hosting because that's hosted on the same server.
A few web hostings offer a separate backup server but not all. It's better to be safe than sorry. In the last couple of years, many websites have been hacked.
As you already know, you can backup your website using cPanel with the all in backup feature provided by it.
But in most of the cases, people host multiple websites on the same web hosting server. At such cases, it's important to backup the database separately.
To do so, there are two different methods using cPanel.
Special note: If you are worried about reliability and security issues for your website, and are considering switching to another web host, we recommend that you consult with HostAdvice's expert and user reviews before doing so. Go to HostAdvice's Best Web Hosting Services page to find the best rated web hosts in these categories.
Backup Your Website's Database Using the Main Backup Wizard
Now you may be wondering about the backup wizard icon available on the cPanel. Well, that's not it. As mentioned above, you need to open the main backup section from which, you backed up your whole website.
But here we are talking about the multiple websites so you have to know the name of the database.
There are only a few steps in this method. It's easy to use.
First of all, log into the cPanel of your account and search for the files' section and click on the Backup icon.
Once you do that, you can see an option to generate the backup file to download. But if you do it, it will create a ZIP file consisting all the data available in the root directory.
But you want to backup the database here. To do so, scroll down and you can see a heading "Download a MySQL Database Backup".
Under which, you can see the name of the database. Just click on the database name and the download will get started.
Isn't that simple? Now, you may be wondering about the second method. It's also easy.
Backup the Database Using phpMyAdmin
You may have already known that WordPress uses a MySQL database which can be managed using phpMyAdmin.
Now you just need to follow the required steps and within a few minutes, you can have the backup file on your computer.
You may have already logged into the cPanel. So now you just need to search for the database section. Click on the phpMyAdmin icon.
Once you open it, you have to open the database you want to download. To do so, find the name from the left-side menu.
Click on the database name.
After that, you will see many database tables on the screen. You will also see that in the left-side menu, new tables have appeared.
Now to create and download the backup, you have to click on the Export link from the main navigation menu.
Once you do it, you will see a few options to choose. You don't need to do anything except clicking on the Go button shown at the bottom.
The download will get started and depend on the size of the database, you will have it on your computer.
It's recommended to remain logged into the cPanel until the download gets completed. Sometimes, the server loses its network and you wouldn't want to follow the same procedure to start the download again.
Now you may be wondering as if you can backup your database using a plugin or not. Well, you can but it's better to use cPanel instead of adding a new plugin.
It's always recommended to avoid a plugin whenever you can. If you're a WordPress user, it's necessary to learn the basics of cPanel.
I hope you haven't faced any kind of difficulty while following the steps mentioned above.
Using cPanel is just like managing your website from WordPress dashboard. It's simple and easy to navigate. Most of the people get scared because of the technical terms mentioned in cPanel.
I would suggest you try using it. It's because the more you try to know about cPanel, the more you will become capable to solve your website's issue.
