I have been using WholesaleInternet for about a year now and I can't say too much bad about them. All the problems I had were handled with maturity and respect (like all should). The support was handl...Read Moreed by about 10-20 different people around the clock making the support blazing fast having my questions answered within minutes. I have had a number of different servers, because I was going through a series upgrades because I needed more power, their prices are the cheapest I could find ANYWHERE. I currently have a plan with 32GB DDR3 Ram, Dual Opteron 6128 with 2.0GHz and 16 Cores with a nice 2TB HDD. All for $39 a month, I cannot complain. Once your server is up and running you have a choice of a number of different operating systems, all sorts of different Unix operating systems, and if you get a plan like mine you'll be able to run windows. After that is done, it will take about 45 minutes to have an amazing server running, with little to no issues. I have literally NEVER, over the year I have spent with these people, had a hardware issue, such as a hard drive. When I did have network issues, it was fixed within 5 minutes. Their support did a speed test and messed with a few wires, and tada, I have a gigabit port once again. These dedicated servers aren't over packed, because they each have their own server. So my server isn't the same as someone else's just with shared resources. Some hosts do that, to cut costs. WholesaleInternet, no. They use one of the oldest tricks in the book, go for more users and cheaper prices to make your pay day. I'm one of those users, I love WholesaleInternet and I hope to see you using one of their amazing servers.

Of course, all hosts have their catches, this one, very little. Their support only handles hard ware issues. Which is fine, if you need software support. There's more than enough helpful websites out there to give ya a hand.
When I say little to no problems, most of my problems (since I'm new to this) were user error. Very few times were the host responsible for the trouble I was having.

I've used WholesaleInternet in the past. I always used the 'Instant Dedi Service' and from that I always had a bad hard drive here and there and it would get resolved. I wa...Read Morey of offloading your information so that you can restore your server easily, however they will plug in your old drive and allow you to copy the needed files and there support is very fast. One thing to note is there support is hardware only! This is an unmanaged service so don't expect to get the answer you're looking for if something isnt working the way you like.

I now use there custom dedi service and it is much better! They provide on the go upgrades and everything. I've been a customer for over 6 months and have not experienced many problem thus far.

I felt a need to post a review since all I keep seeing is bad reviews. I've had nothing but a good experience with Wholesale Internet.

Thanks.

Server Instability

Having used a variety of different dedicated servers I was excited to see such powerfull abaible for such a low monthly cost. At first all was good, the server was exactly what they said it was and I was one happy camper. After ab...Read Moreout two days I tried to connect to the server and realized I wasn't able to. I ended up having to reboot the sever to be able to establish connection again. This happened several times. I contacted costumer support having looked threw different logs, unable to find the problem. Customer support was very quick to respond but also unable to find the problem and was quick to dump the problem back on me. After several more crashes and customer support tickets later I gave up. The only option was to have my server pulled for hardware testing because I couldn't go a few hours without the server crashing. I couldnt afford the down time and I wasn't confident that would even resolve my issue so I was forced to use a different company. All in all if your lucky and get a server that works than this is a great place to shop otherwise your taking your chances...Less

So I tried a $20 server with so much more in resources than I even needed to host a simple Shoutcast streaming server. The box literally had nothing else on it but the control panel software and MRTG for graphing. When it works it...Read More works good but it seems their internal network is ALWAYS having issues. Been sitting here all weekend looking at 12 - 13% packet loss inside of their network and can't get a reply to save my life from support. This is at least the fifth such incident in the past two months. Even said F' it and downgraded to a $10 a month server. Seemed stable for about a week before the same issue arose again. If you are hosting some simple website and don't mind some pages not loading here and there it's perfect since packet loss doesn't mess with websites as much. Try anything meaningful on this network and you will find out why it's so cheap. Really wish they were better because for the minimal resources I need the service would be perfect if they ever fixed this damn router.Less

Expert Overview

Focused on Dedicated Servers since 1999

Wholesale Internet has been offering affordable dedicated servers for web hosting since 1999. They are based in Kansas City, MO, and in 2008 opened a larger, more advanced facility to meet the growing need. Their datacenter provides excellent features that will help to keep servers up and running smoothly without any trouble. It has fully redundant cooling systems, three sources of power, and much more to allow servers to operate in an ideal environment.

Their main focus is offering dedicated servers that are fast and powerful, but still as affordable as possible. They have also expanded their offerings to include virtual private servers (VPS) for those who are looking for that option. The website they operate seems a little simplistic, or even out of date in some areas, but it does display the information clearly so those shopping for hosting won’t have any trouble finding what they need.

Uptime & Reliability

Excellent Reputation for Stability

The hardware and transfer connections are known for being very stable. They don’t have an uptime guarantee at all, which may be a concern for many people, but it is unlikely that there will be any sort of outage on that end. Since you are responsible for managing your own software, however, that could cause stability issues if you don’t do things properly. You’ll also be responsible for monitoring your own systems, which is something that is taken care of by the hosting company for managed servers. When done properly, however, the stability is very strong.

Features

Quality Features for Affordable Dedicated Servers

All the different features are listed in one big table on the website. They seem to go out and find the most affordable servers possible for their customers because they have lots of different types available. You can choose from servers with AMD processors, or those with Intel. They also have lots of different hard drive sizes, processor speeds, RAM amounts and types, and much more. Their available servers changes on a regular basis based on what they have available at any given time.

Wholesale Internet appears to acquire new servers, configure them for hosting, and then have them available for users once they are ordered. This makes it possible to have a dedicated server ready to go within minutes of making an order. One important feature of this company is that they offer unmanaged servers. This means you will be responsible for things like installing software, rebooting servers, and more.

Support

Good Support for Hardware Issues

The technical support teams are available to work on any issues you have with the hardware in the servers themselves. They can replace parts, check power, and more. If you have an issue with the software or configuration, on the other hand, you are left on your own to figure out how to fix it.

Pricing

Low Costs for Unmanaged Servers

For US based dedicated servers, this company has some of the lowest prices around. Despite the low costs, the quality is still quite good in terms of the hardware you will have access to. For just $10 per month you can get an Intel Core2Duo server with 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM, and 250GB SATA hard drive space. The prices gradually go up as the hardware specs improve. Currently the highest end option is $999 per month for 8 CPU Xeon E7-2850 machine. That is 8 physical CPUs, not just 8 cores. It has a total of 80 cores, 1 TB of Ram and a 16TB drive.

Just keep in mind that the cost is for the hardware and data transmission only. These are unmanaged servers so you will need to do all your own software management, and troubleshooting. This will be difficult for those who don’t have a lot of experience working on this type of thing.

User Friendly

Friendly for Experienced IT Professionals

The website for this company is fairly simplistic and in places even appears to be outdated. It is still easy to find the information that is needed when you need it. Once you get signed up, you will be largely left on your own to make sure everything is working. This is because these are unmanaged servers rather than managed, which is what most people are used to. If there is a suspected hardware issue with a server, you can get in touch with the technical support team easily enough and they will investigate quickly to help ensure the servers themselves are up and running normally.

Summary

Easy & Affordable Dedicated Servers

If you need a dedicated server and know how to manage it on your own, this is a great company to consider. They have been providing high quality services for a very long time, and have a great reputation for quality. If you don’t know how to do things like manage software, install updates, perform backups, and other important tasks, however, you’ll want to go with another company that provides managed services.

Pros:

  • Very Affordable Servers
  • Easy to Understand Feature Lists
  • Well-Established Company

Cons:

  • No Shared Hosting
  • No Option for Managed Servers
