Pinned Review

Ridwan Choudhury,
I signed up with A Small Orange despite seeing many bitter reviews on the internet. I've been using ASO shared (small) plan for 3 months. Never experienced any issue with their service. I've monitored...Read More my website uptime with Jetpack plugin of wordpress and tested speed, server response time regularly. Never experienced any downtime in last 3 months. Pingdom shows my website is faster than the 98% website. Actually, so far I'm very happy with their service.

It is true that their support ticket is very slow and they took almost two weeks to reply my ticket about registering a new domain. But I never had to wait more than 3 minutes to get live chat support. My ticket was solved instantly via live chat.

Another good thing about ASO is their server name and user area interface is very unique and user friendly.

Hope ASO will remain consistent with their good service. Best wishes for ASO team!

Long term customer. Cancelled some services and then they billed me for them at renewal. When i tried to call - there is NO phone support (there used to be). Run! Just run with your money!

Run! Run with your money, or they will.

I asked them for a dedicated IP and asked can I have a separate domain on a dedicated IP within the same cpanel account. A support person over the chat said that I can. I thought, well, g...Read Morereat, no need for another account. I buy the IP.

A ticket was opened for this IP so billing could follow up and all.

Then another guy comes to reply to the ticket saying I actually do need a 2nd cpanel account for it. Oh, well...

I go and buy a 2nd account.

Then go back to the ticket and tell them I bought it and that they should now assign the IP to that 2nd account.

A third guy comes to reply to the ticket and tells me they actually cannot apply the IP to that 2nd account because they run some OS there that doesn't support that.... Are you f***** kidding me?!

I had it. I asked for a refund for both IP and the new account that I pad an annual price for.

They refunded the IP. And here comes the crown jewel...

They didn't want to refund the new hosting account because per their terms any non-first time account is not eligible for a refund.

I told them they told me to get a 2nd account in order for the dedicated IP to work with a separate domain. Can you believe that?! They ask you to buy it, they mess up and will not refund it because they will stick to their terms like it's your fault?! INCREDIBLE!

Well, actually, now that I read all the bad reviews that piled up for them through the years I certainly can believe what just happened to me. Fits in just fine.

Appalling Customer Experience.

Okay firstly they billed me twice for my hosting. I completed payment in Paypal but the page errored when it tried to move me to the seller site and I was advised to go back again which resulted in an extra payment. As always with...Read More online payment they can take your money instantly under any pretense but it takes 7-10 days to give it back.

I ordered Domain Privacy or whatever it's called having been phoned and emailed by every Indian who ever built a website the last time I registered a domain for weeks - an experience I did not want to repeat. Within a matter of hours my phone rang. Then my inbox started filling up. With emails from every indian who ever built a website. So I get into a support chat window in the client area.

It's quickly apparent that the person who answered is balancing multiple inquiries at once because he would keep saying "please give me 5 minutes while I look into your enquiry". Five minutes later he would return to say "please give me 5 minutes while I look into your enquiry". I typed explicitly that I wanted a refund having explained the nature of the problem clearly in my original chat message.

Not only did the support person completely ignore this request - he simply went ahead and manually applied the privacy setting - a pointless gesture because even in the time I was waiting for him to "look into the problem" I received 2 unsolicited phonecalls and multiple emails offering "Web design and SEO services". And I say pointless because anyone looking for new business has already harvested and databased my email address and phone number.

He came back and explained that he had applied the privacy setting and I re-emphasised I wanted my money back because of their failure to offer the service I paid for. He refused. He had applied the setting and since that could be undone he was not willing to apply a refund. I demanded the matter be escalated and I'm still waiting. And not in silence might I add. My phone is still ringing and I wake up to a stack of emails each morning as more come through the day.

I still stand by the server configuration and packages offered by ASO. But these are a legacy of a company that was brought out. The new owners treat web hosting as a quantity based exercise designed to fill their pockets and nothing more. Whatever good memories you may have had of ASO are over. What's left is a soulless, greed-driven pale reflection of a once great host that, once they have your money, have no feeling for you and no regard for the quality of what they do.

And be warned. The company that brought them out also owns Bluehost.

Scam Hosting Company, Stay Away

I regret the day I chose a small orange as a hosting company. Throughout my year's contract, I had frequent server outages and downtime, causing me to lose clients. They are a complete scam, do not trust them with your credit card details. To add insult to injury, their 'recourse' was issuing a "site credit" that was LESS than what they charged on my card. Cancellation Reason for ASmallOrange: Worse customer service ever!

One Web Hosting Solution That You Can't Miss

A Small Orange is definitely one of those unheard of web hosting companies, but don’t let that steer you away from them, because they are offer simple and clear hosting packages. Transparent About Uptime but Vague About Information

What do I say about the reliability? It’s fairly transparent but vague at the same time. By this I mean that they do offer information on uptime and data centres but don’t really go out of their way to provide historical data for uptime or in-depth information on servers etc. That’s not a massive issue though as they do guarantee 99.9% uptime with a page that shows server status details. A Small Orange also monitor their servers using CCTV, redundancy power systems which come in the form of a backup battery, and this is all powered by diesel.

Features That Will Blow Your Mind!

There are some really good features available over at A Small Orange, and all shared hosting plans come with daily backups, an SSD driven hosting environment, and automatic script installation. However, the real selling point for me is that they offer unlimited POP3, MySQL, Mailing Lists, Email Forwarders, Sub-domains, and FTP Accounts, which is an offer that you won’t find on many hosting websites. For extra costs you can also buy more bandwidth for your plan, a premium support option, and you can also take out dedicated IP addresses for SSL sites.

Support Options Let The Down

If one area of our review lets A Small Orange down its the support that they offer. It almost seems like they have been so busy perfecting every other angle of the business that they haven’t had time to bother about customer support. All of the support is outsourced, and the support workers work remotely. This can lead to a whole host of problems and what many customers have reported is that they haven’t been able to get sufficient advice or answers to some of the more technical questions. Support is 24/7/365 but live chat isn’t available over the weekend periods. You can get in contact by email and ticket system but there is absolutely no telephone support available.

Prices to Suit Anyone Requirements

There are a total of 5 hosting plans which range from Shared Hosting to Hybrid and Dedicated hosting, and everything in between. The prices and requirements can meet the needs of an individual or small company up to large enterprises. For the lowest paid plan you can pick yourself up a shared hosting account which can get your business up off the ground in no time. Reseller hosting starts at $15 per month whilst Business hosting and Cloud VPS hosting, both begin at $20 per month.

One of The Best Web Hosting Sites Out There

The website itself is amazingly well designed, and everything is simply laid-out and accessible from the homepage. You can either select bundles or ‘find your perfect plan’ which lists all the plans available. There is no clutter, no needless content and images, it’s simple plain and just brilliant. CPanel comes with most plans but double check this before buying as it appears to be missing on some plans. CPanel is an excellent control panel tool for beginners and experienced users and just makes life easier when managing your site and hosting. This is one of my favourite web hosting sites to be on, I would actually say it’s a pleasure to navigate around.

A Strong Contender For One of The Best Shared Hosting Platforms

A Small Orange is a really great hosting solution for small to medium sized businesses, with the option to scale up. The user-friendly feel of the site and the clear service line-up is definitely a 10/10 for me as anyone from a basic Internet user to an advanced user can jump onto the site and feel comfortable in seconds. The plans are all nicely priced and offer some feature packed tools and options that can help you take control of your website. A refund policy and a 45-day money back guarantee are just more tempting reason to take out a hosting plan, with the only one big drawback being the lack of support.
