Pingdom shows my website is faster than the 98% website. Actually, so far I'm very happy with their service.

It is true that their support ticket is very slow and they took almost two weeks to reply my ticket about registering a new domain. But I never had to wait more than 3 minutes to get live chat support. My ticket was solved instantly via live chat.

Another good thing about ASO is their server name and user area interface is very unique and user friendly.

Hope ASO will remain consistent with their good service. Best wishes for ASO team!

I had an account with small orange. 1st i got 50 emails from SEO optimization etc. from third parties without wanting to. 2nd they registered my domain through some third party who now owns that domain so i cannot re-register it...stay away

They are a complete scam, do not trust them with your credit card details. To add insult to injury, their 'recourse' was issuing a "site credit" that was LESS than what they charged on my card. I completed payment in Paypal but the page errored when it tried to move me to the seller site and I was advised to go back again which resulted in an extra payment. I ordered Domain Privacy or whatever it's called having been phoned and emailed by every Indian who ever built a website the last time I registered a domain for weeks - an experience I did not want to repeat. Within a matter of hours my phone rang. Then my inbox started filling up. With emails from every indian who ever built a website. So I get into a support chat window in the client area.

It's quickly apparent that the person who answered is balancing multiple inquiries at once because he would keep saying "please give me 5 minutes while I look into your enquiry". Five minutes later he would return to say "please give me 5 minutes while I look into your enquiry". I typed explicitly that I wanted a refund having explained the nature of the problem clearly in my original chat message.

Not only did the support person completely ignore this request - he simply went ahead and manually applied the privacy setting - a pointless gesture because even in the time I was waiting for him to "look into the problem" I received 2 unsolicited phonecalls and multiple emails offering "Web design and SEO services". And I say pointless because anyone looking for new business has already harvested and databased my email address and phone number.

He came back and explained that he had applied the privacy setting and I re-emphasised I wanted my money back because of their failure to offer the service I paid for. He refused. He had applied the setting and since that could be undone he was not willing to apply a refund. I demanded the matter be escalated and I'm still waiting. And not in silence might I add. My phone is still ringing and I wake up to a stack of emails each morning as more come through the day.

I still stand by the server configuration and packages offered by ASO. But these are a legacy of a company that was brought out. The new owners treat web hosting as a quantity based exercise designed to fill their pockets and nothing more. Whatever good memories you may have had of ASO are over. What's left is a soulless, greed-driven pale reflection of a once great host that, once they have your money, have no feeling for you and no regard for the quality of what they do.

And be warned. The company that brought them out also owns Bluehost.

I repeated, I believe about 6 times, that my email was not working so emailing me would not work and each time they would tell me that a Senior Tech would get back to me via Email.
-NO PHONE SUPPORT!!!!!

So I moved my site to a new host. On the phone with the New Host they were able to resolve the issue with the email, which apparently migrated with the Cpanel BU, in about 5 minutes.

If you do cancel, which you should run to do, make sure you replace your credit card info with a gift card info, perhaps one that has a $1 on it. That way if they try to bill you they can't. There is no way to delete your Credit Card info. Also make sure to tell them to DELETE ALL Billing and Credit Card Info.

My advise is to stay as far away from this company as possible. And for anyone who has had horrible dealings with them report them to the Better Business Bureau.
These guys should not be in business.

This company doesn't even deserve a 1, their's is a total Zero for ALL services. And NEVER should be a choice in the rating.

I've been with ASO for 10 years. Until the last couple of years it had generally been excellent. Features and price were good, customer service and issue resolution were excellent. From the point they withdrew the ability to set a...Read More priority on a support ticket things got difficult. Then chat filled that void with urgent matters being actioned quickly. But then over the last two years, more outages, slow response, slow patching and updates. In the last six months, support is ridiculously slow.

For the last three weeks on shared hosting it's not been possible to resolve "localhost" - pretty fundamental. They unlinked /etc/hosts from the bind-mount so there is effectively no host file within a user's account, which causes all kinds of problems with scripts, cron jobs, mysql, etc. Chat operators just keep saying "we apologise" and "it will be fixed soon". The senior technicians are yet to respond to the support ticket. This would take them 30 seconds to fix.

ASO is nothing like the company it used to be. Time to move to a new provider.

Transparent About Uptime but Vague About Information

What do I say about the reliability? It’s fairly transparent but vague at the same time. By this I mean that they do offer information on uptime and data centres but don’t really go out of their way to provide historical data for uptime or in-depth information on servers etc. That’s not a massive issue though as they do guarantee 99.9% uptime with a page that shows server status details. A Small Orange also monitor their servers using CCTV, redundancy power systems which come in the form of a backup battery, and this is all powered by diesel.

There are some really good features available over at A Small Orange, and all shared hosting plans come with daily backups, an SSD driven hosting environment, and automatic script installation. However, the real selling point for me is that they offer unlimited POP3, MySQL, Mailing Lists, Email Forwarders, Sub-domains, and FTP Accounts, which is an offer that you won’t find on many hosting websites. For extra costs you can also buy more bandwidth for your plan, a premium support option, and you can also take out dedicated IP addresses for SSL sites.

If one area of our review lets A Small Orange down its the support that they offer. It almost seems like they have been so busy perfecting every other angle of the business that they haven’t had time to bother about customer support. All of the support is outsourced, and the support workers work remotely. This can lead to a whole host of problems and what many customers have reported is that they haven’t been able to get sufficient advice or answers to some of the more technical questions. Support is 24/7/365 but live chat isn’t available over the weekend periods. You can get in contact by email and ticket system but there is absolutely no telephone support available.
