Expert Overview
Quality Shared Hosting Services
Promitech is a Michigan (USA) based hosting company that provides good quality services to all their clients. They are focused on offering shared hosting, so this is primarily an option for individuals and small to medium sized companies. They have been in business for a while, and have a pretty good reputation for the quality they provide.
They are a member of some web hosting and design firms and in addition to their shared hosting services they also offer WordPress themes, backup services, domain registration and web design services. Overall, this is a good company to work with, especially if you need more than just their basic web hosting.
Uptime & Reliability
Quality Hosting - No Guarantees
They don't offer any type of uptime guarantees, which is unfortunate. Many of these smaller hosting companies don't though so it is not uncommon. They do have good tech support and have been recognized for their quality service. I could not find anyone complaining of downtime either, so the chances are very good that you'll be getting a very stable hosting environment.
Features
Some Concerning Restrictions
The features offered by this company aren't terrible, and will be more than enough for most individual blogs and smaller companies. Some of the plans, however, are quite restrictive on things like disk space, bandwidth and more. For example, their entry level option only provides 200MB of disk space. This is a tiny amount, and while it is plenty for some basic sites, that is about it. They also limit to 2 gigs of bandwidth.
Even their 'gold' hosting plan is limited to 1.5 gigs for disk space and 15 gigs for bandwidth. While this isn't a big deal for many sites, it is always comforting to know that you have plenty of room to grow, and that may not be the case with this company.
They do have one click installers for WordPress and other services. They also allow unlimited emails and things like that. Overall, the features list is a mixed bag of good and bad.
Support
24/7/365
The tech support from this company is quite good. They are open 24/7 and do a good job supporting the services they offer. Most people won't need to get in touch with them, but if you do, they respond fast and can help you with any type of hosting issue you run into.
Pricing
High Prices for What You Get
The prices for what you get are a little high. The entry level hosting plan is only $4.95 per month, but with such limiting specs it really should be less. The highest option is $24.95, which is too high based on the features you'll be getting. If you are using their other services like web design or WordPress templates, it may be worth it to you to pay a little extra for the hosting. On its own, however, they are over charging.
Summary
Smaller Hosting Company - Some Nice Features
If you like working with smaller companies, this option might be for you. They do offer some discounts for churches and other non-profits, so that can make them even more attractive. The quality of their other services is also quite good so give them a shot if you need a variety of web related services in addition to hosting.
Pros:
- Lots of extra services
- Good Tech Support
Cons:
- Prices are too high
- Limits on hosting features
