PlotHost has been in business since 2008 and provide good quality shared hosting. They don’t offer VPS or dedicated servers or cloud hosting, Their shared options are nice, and since that is what the majority of people will need it is a good business model. While some people are hesitant to go with shared only hosting, it is good to note that most sites never need anything more than a shared hosting solution so this should not be a worry.
The company is run by three IT professionals who have a lot of experience with hosting and other technical work. They seem to have put together a nice company that has a lot of happy customers. Their data center is in Dallas, Texas. Interestingly, they say they can get your server hosted in any country you want. This seems to indicate that they just resell at least some of their services, which some people might not like.
Uptime & Reliability
Very Reliable Hosting
The hosting from this company comes with a 99.9% uptime guarantee, which is nice. They have also won a number of awards for their level of service so the chances are you will have a good reliable hosting experience. In the event you do run into trouble they have 24/7/365 tech support on staff to help you get back online. Due to the nice hardware they use (SSD) there won’t likely be any outages related to hardware failure. The one concern I had is since they seem to offer at least some reseller based hosting they may have limited control if you select hosting outside of their primary data center.
Features
Very Nice Shared Hosting Features
The shared hosting features are quite nice. They use solid state drives for their storage, which helps to improve speed and reduce the potential for hardware failures. They do have limits on things like disk space and bandwidth, but they are high enough so they aren’t likely to be a concern. The disk space limits start at 2 gigs and go up to 15. Bandwidth ranges form 20 gigs to 150.
All the other features are pretty standard for shared hosting companies. It is hard to stand out in this area, but from what I can see the company does an overall good job with what they offer. They do make the statement that they DO NOT oversell their servers, which is one of the most important things to know when going with shared hosting.
Support
Quality Tech Support
This company offers good tech support and have their tech team on site 24/7. They also have a nice knowledge base and blog to give you information when you need it for learning about your hosting and avoiding problems.
Pricing
Good Prices
The prices with this company are lower than average, but not by much. The entry level option is just $2.95 per month and it goes up to $10.95 per month for the high end option. If you pay annually you get 2 free months, which makes it even more affordable. Given that they have no overselling policies and solid state drives, these prices really are quite good.
Summary
Very Nice Overall Hosting
The hosting from this company is quite nice. They really do seem to do a good job giving their customers exactly what they need. While there is no room to grow to VPS or above, most people won’t ever need that so it shouldn’t be a concern for many.
Pros:
- Solid State Drives
- Low Prices
- Good Reputation
- No overselling
Cons:
