Hyve is a hosting provider based in the United Kingdom that was founded in 1999. Since that time, the company has expanded internationally to include data centers in Hong Kong and Shanghai in China and Somerset, New Jersey and San Jose, California in the United States. The company is geared towards mission-critical business operations only and the website displays several large international companies that use their services.
Uptime & Reliability
100% Uptime Guarantee
Hvye offers a 100% uptime guarantee. While very few companies make this claim, fewer still have the global network and data center presence that Hvye does.
Features
Lots of different options
The organization offers a plethora of solutions to keep customer’s enterprise networks and applications in peak condition with hosting being just the tip of the iceberg. Hosting is offered as a dedicated service as well as a cloud service. In fact, Hvye’s page states that they have a partnership with VMware to provide secure cloud services; this alliance should make a strong value proposition to those seeking outsourcing.
Another service offering is SFTP, or Secure File Transfer Protocol. With confidentiality and information security an ever-growing concern in the cloud computing environment, Hyve has definitely created a comprehensive suite of products and services to proactively meet the needs of a wide customer base. Among other features, the SFTP features are shown to integrate with Microsoft’s Active Directory standards. LDAP and a web client is also available.
Secure file sharing is also available, but as of this date is only offered in the UK. With the number of cloud users growing daily, it seems likely that this service will only see demand grow to international distribution.
Hyve also offers very strong security measures to customers, including firewall, intrusion prevention systems (IPS) intrusion detection systems (IDS), encryption, event management and two-factor encryption services.
Backup services are part of the solution set that Hvye offers; traditional backup procedures are strengthened by adding off-site storage. Continuous audit methods can be selected to insure that customer’s network activity is within appropriate bounds and disaster recovery is also available should any event require such measures.
For true enterprise-level operations, SQL server clustering and load balancing is offered to make sure that customer’s networks are operating in peak condition.
Going through the terms of service (TOS) I found a section that stated sending unsolicited email to more than five recipients would be considered as spam. While trying to kill spam at the source is a great idea, the five recipient restriction could inhibit valid marketing and sales efforts.
Support
Great tech support
Hyve claims to have a best-in-class support system that can be tailored to the customer’s needs. The Hyve help desk can be reached by phone 24/7, email and call-back service requests are also available around the clock.
The wiki-based FAQ page appears to be capable of answering just about any question regarding operation or configuration; statistics show that the page has been visited over 140,000 times.
Pricing
No Set Prices – Request a Quote
Due to the diverse requirements of the customer and the company’s “best in breed” approach to hardware, all services are priced individually with a “request a quote” link posted on all items.
Summary
Great option to consider
For the enterprise looking to collocate or outsource their mission-critical applications and infrastructure, Hvye would seem to be a top contender. Based on their informational pages, the firm is able to offer virtually any hosting and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution. The added value of development services would seem to make them an even stronger candidate by offering a single vendor to outsource to.
Pros:
- Great facilities
- “Best in Class” services
- 100% Uptime Guarantee
Cons:
- No set prices (request a quote) – This typically means they are expensive
- Restrictive email policy
