HostCab is a good quality hosting provider that offers a variety of different options. They have been in business for long enough to build a good reputation and they have plenty of features to meet the needs of just about anyone. The company offers shared hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, domain name registration, SSL certificates and more so you’ll have access to everything you need. The prices are reasonable and the support is good.
Uptime & Reliability
Mostly Stable Hosting
While they don’t have an uptime guarantee that I could find, I did not see anyone complaining of actual outages. I did find some people on their shared hosting environment complaining about slow response times. This likely means that they oversell the servers, at least for the lower level packages. It could also mean that people are signing up for the low end hosting when they need something better. Either way, it is something you’ll want to be aware of when selecting the package you need.
Features
Lots to Choose From
You can choose from a lot of different hosting packages, each with different configuration of features for you. The shared hosting comes in either Linux or Windows, and within that option there are five packages on each side. They do have limits on some of the packages, but they are quite reasonable. The lowest level shared package, for example, has limits of 500 mb disk space and 10,000 mb bandwidth. For how cheap it is, however, this is a fair limit. These limits become unlimited as you move up to the higher level hosting options.
When you look at VPS solutions you’ll see that there are six pre-configured options there. The hardware you get is very reasonable, with options at many different levels. You can get the higher level of control with VPS for an affordable rate too. The dedicated servers also have high quality hardware and will provide you with everything you need for most types of sites.
Additional features include the option to choose from a variety of operating systems, additional IPs, weekly backups and more. Some of these options do cost extra though, so keep that in mind before ordering.
Support
Quality Tech Support
They have a nice support center that will address issues quickly and easily. You can contact them via a ticketing system that helps to track issues and get them resolved. They also have a server status page to let you know if there are any known issues and an alerts page for upcoming issues. I did not see any self help support though, which is unfortunate.
Pricing
Low Initial Price – Some Extra Expenses
The base packages are all quite affordable. For shared hosting, for example, you can get the entry level package for under a dollar per month. The cheapest VPS is just $14. Even as you move up to higher level packages within each category, the prices are still well below average for what you’re getting. The one down side to this company, however, is that a lot of the features will cost you extra. Even some features that would normally be included with other companies.
For example, an additional IP is $1.95 per month. Weekly backups cost $9.95 per month. Add on managed services to VPS and dedicated, and it is $29.95 per month (which includes the weekly backups). If you need a lot of extras, it will add up quickly and the result can be some very expensive hosting, so you’ll need to be careful.
Summary
Nice Option for Out of the Box Hosting
If you just need their normal hosting packages and nothing else, this company is a nice option to consider. They have reasonable features, a good reputation and lots to choose from. Once you start adding on extras, however, you will need to be careful. The prices can go up significantly and you will end up paying more than it is worth. With care, however, that should not be a problem.
Pros:
- Low Base Prices
- Lots of Extras
- Good Support
Cons:
- Extras can add to cost significantly
- Some complaints of slowness
