I migrated from Fatcow 2 years ago, where their renewal fees went from $40 -> $134 per year. It was over 3x the initial price. Now I only pay $24 per year for the past 2 years, and will be renewing at the same price.
Jia migrated my 3 Wordpress sites in a couple of hours, and was helpful in assisting us move over to Hostkoala.
I've rarely used support since then, but responses were always good. The server has been speedy and reliable on a whole, perhaps a bit faster than Fatcow.
Best price I have found online. Service is very reliable and decently fast ! For seasoned cPanel users like me, it was very easy to use, support is good but their response time goes into the hours. There is no site builder, but a app installer that installs Wordpress and other blogging platforms very quickly. Overall, still a positive experience
I like HostKoala. I would recommend it to people who want CHEAP & RELIABLE service.
However this comes at a cost. Their support team is nowhere near as fast as most top tier hosting companies. I guess thats where they cut corners. In general, your questions will be answered, but it will take hours to be answered. Response time takes hours, and sometimes they ask for more info, you provide it, and they take hours again to reply. This will result in resolutions taking even a day or 2 to finish.
Despite this, if you know what you are doing, you should be fine. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't send mail out via SMTP, but HostKoala did diagnose and solve the problem nicely ( Over a day of hours of responses with support team ). Turns out I had a different email on WP and a different email that sent out the mail, resulting in my mail being not sent out because its flagged for spam.
However, overall, this hosting is still very very good. Its cheap, its reliable, and your mail isn't blacklisted. There's not much you can ask for, except maybe live chat or quicker response times. I guess I am paying $5/year instead of $5/mo so that's soemthing to take into consideration !
Reliability : only 5 minutes of downtime in 2017 Pricing : I used a coupon that netted me 1 gb hosting for $2 a year User friendly : their control panel is easy to use, there are tutorials on their site as well as many YouTube videos on cpanel. Support : I needed help on why my mails were blocked and it got a reply within 17 minutes, and issue was resolved in under a hour. Features : its nice to have daily backups that act as a restore point
I'm a webmaster and am inclined to give a positive review for host koala.
Firstly, when I signed up, my account was up and running within a few minutes. I got an email with my login info. The first thing I noticed when I logged in is that the server info showed 24 cores! And server load was under 10,which is excellent.
Hostkoala.com uses cpanel, like most hosts. If you have used it before, you will know its pretty easy to use. If not, it is still quite beginner friendly. A great thing about hostkoala.com is that it has backups of your site everyday that is download able from cpanel itself. I have tested it and the download works fine. I haven't needed to use it yet but hopefully I don't need to. It is a great feature to have.
There is also softaculous that helps me install WordPress in 30 seconds. That's great.
So far,i have no downtime at all. My site takes around 2 seconds to load from US and 2.6 seconds from Sweden according to Pingdom, which are good scores for shared hosting ( page file size of 2.6 mb and a WordPress site) I'm guessing litespeed and a non oversold node helps in that regard
I've only needed to use support once, and I received a reply within 30 minutes. It was just a basic question and was responded accurately. It was a pre sale question regarding refunds, and they seem to provide full refunds within 45 days no matter what, so that's another place.
Overall for the amount I paid, I am very happy ( 10 us dollars)
