HolHost is a fairly simple hosting company. This list all their packages right on their front page with minimal ‘sales’ type of material available. It seems that they are just putting it all out there and you can choose whether or not they are the right option for you. They have fairly straight forward lists of features as well.
From what I can tell they have been around since 2004, but they don’t really say where they are based out of or where their data centers are located. This is something of a concern since these locations are very important for website owners.
Uptime & Reliability
Not much information about reliability
They don’t really display much information about their uptime statistics. They also don’t have an uptime guarantee that I was able to find. I did look through other reviews and nobody was complaining about outages or anything, so the chances are that the reliability of this company is going to be quite good. Also, they say that they “guarantee that you will always receive the best web hosting service available.”
Features
Nice list of easy to use features
One of the nicest things about this company is that they list all their packages and features in one easy to see place. They are all unlimited for bandwidth, but have some limits on disk space. For all their hosting options, however, the disk space is plenty high enough to support just about any type of site.
THey also offer free bulletin board services, traffic monitoring, an IP deny manager and more. You can use cPanel, which is nice. They also have options for Windows hosting or Linux hosting, which is what most people will want.
Support
Limited support options
They say they are available 24/7 for technical support, which is nice. It looks like they only provide that support through their ticketing system though, which some people won’t appreciate. From what I have been able to learn, once you get your issues reported to them, they are able to fix problems quite quickly. I did not see any real knowledge base or anything for self help.
Pricing
Some options slightly over priced
Most of their hosting packages are right in line with the industry standard prices. Once you move into the higher levels, however, they seem to cost more than they are worth. If you are looking only at price, I would say that this is not a bad option for an entry level hosting provider but if you need something more advanced, there are better options available.
Summary
Overall easy to use hosting
This is a good hosting option for many people. They are really easy to use and understand, which is exactly what many people will be looking for. There are some downsides, but overall this is definitely a good hosting company.
Pros:
- Easy to understand hosting
- Simple packages
- Good list of features
Cons:
- No uptime guarantee
- No information about where their hosting is based out of
