Gandi.net Reviews and Expert Opinion

A few words from Gandi.net

Gandi is a domain name registrar, a web host, and an email and SSL certificate provider whose guiding ambition is to make the internet accessible to all. But above all, Gandi is a French success story built on customer trust and word-of-mouth recommendations. It all began with only a few pioneers of the free internet, and 20 years later, it became a small but mighty internation...Read Moreal business with 150 employees spread over three continents; with values that remain unchanged and make Gandi unique and independent on the market.

Hi Taco, what's your final opinion? we also have about 4 domain providers we using and I'm trying to consolidating them in one lace. All I want is a domain registrar as we use our nameservers somewhere else.

I'm not aware of any incidences of customer data being erased in the migration to the new site. Gandi as a company is good, but their V5 dashboard / control panel is utterly bad

I was a happy Gandi user for 7 years. However, their most recent update (V5) is utterly useless. Stay away until they've fixed their V5 dashboard / control panel.

Hi there,
Our interface is submitted to continuous deployment, and we're adding features and improving the UX/UI along the way. It improved a lot since March, feel free to come and have a look!

Poor Customer Support

Have a new domain with Gandi but have struggled to activate have sent 7 messages over various formats in 24 hours and still no response.
Sadly, just the same here. Pages that don't work on their site, card payments that are not secure, support who don't answer specific questions, support tickets that get lost, nobody willing to speak in person. Awful, Awful experience.
Andrew // Gandi.net
Andrew // Gandi.net,
Sorry you had this experience! We now have our chat up and running, which you can use to talk to our support team directly. We're also still working on improvements in our support processes, so things will continue to improve. Still, that sounds frustrating and we do apologize.
Andrew // Gandi.net
Andrew // Gandi.net,
Around the time you wrote this review, we did have a significant backlog in our support queues. We're back to 24 hour turnaround times on tickets coming in and we've also activated our online chat, which you can use to communicate directly with our support team as well.

Andrew // Gandi.net
Andrew // Gandi.net,
A 2-3 day wait to get a domain is not normal. I can understand your frustration. If the issue was having to wait for a response from support, that should be better now that our support team doesn't have the backlog it had when you submitted this review.

Gandi v5 is a disaster!

I've been with Gandi for well over a decade and never had a problem. Until they switched to their new platform. I muddled my way through the transition and thought all was well. Until yesterday when I stopped receiving email. My d...Read Moreomain expired, despite being on auto-renew with a credit card. No real warning. It won't let me renew, for any price. There is no longer any live support and my first response via email was useless. Waiting for the next response. In the meantime, my business is on hold. All emails are bouncing and I can do absolutely nothing. I will be switching hosts ASAP once I get control of my business' domain again. It might be fine for a new domain, but as a long-time customer, I've been shafted. This is a disaster.Less
I also didn't get a domain-will-expire reminder, after the migration to V5. I lost a domain, it wasn't of any importance in my case though, fortunately. Made me nervous. Ok this is it -- you also having had the same problem (no email, lost a domain), the now I'll look for sth else than Gandi.
Andrew // Gandi.net

Stay away until they fix v5

Until this summer all was well. Then Gandi announced they were transitioning to a new platform. v5. Sounds good, right? Wrong.

I don't have to do much: manage my DNS, keep a few sites happy, that sort of thing. I duplicate my s...Read Moreite from one server to another and go to change my name servers.

I don't exist on gandi's services. I've been locked out. Not sure why. Maybe missed an email they sent out? Some furious messaging later, that is fixed and I enter to see ... a strange new UI, incomprehensible help texts, no service support, and promotions for something called LiveDNS. No explanation of what it is.

No, I don't need that. I just need to switch my name servers.

I can't. They're apparently managed by another company.

Gandi is my registrar, but they seem to have lost my DNS records somewhere in their v4.

I write to support.

No response.

Another support.

No response.

No response.

I try to switch to LiveDNS - gambling that it might work - all my custom DNS records are lost.

I need to rebuild them.

In a text file.

From scratch.

This is ridiculous.

Not impressed

It seems that Gandi has done itself in with its new v5 platform. Things work, then they don't work. The same login works on the new (beta) platform, but not on the old. Updates to DNS records (which often require manual interventi...Read Moreon) work for a few hours, then disappear. Support seems to be non-existent - still waiting for a reply to a query I submitted 48 hours ago.

Nice support options

You can get in touch with their tech support through a ticketing system, email or a phone number.  They respond fairly quickly and are able to get your issues solved without any significant delay.  When looking on social media and other places I did not find any complaints about support, which is a good sign.

They also offer a FAQ with a lot of good information, and a good user forums system so you can get help from other people that use this hosting company.

Average to slightly above average pricing

Gandi.net offers several different types of pricing packages to choose from ranging from $4.17+ per month and up.  There simple plans are broken down into 5 tiers. Nice option for good hosting

Their web hosting services based on their strong privacy policy and customer support team is very good. They have a reliable and attentive team to help you stay satisfied with their services. Their plans are also very competitive compared to other well-known hosting providers. They have a cancel at any time contract as long as you do not break contract by violating the terms of service  in any way. I recommend Gandi.net to those in need of a reliable reseller and vps solution for their website.
