One of the largest hosting companies in the world – Focused on small-mid sized sites
EasyCGI is another hosting company that is owned by the Endurance International Group, which operates dozens of other hosting companies. Prior to being bought by EIG, they opened in 1996 and have been providing great services the entire time. They are focused on smaller to mid-sized companies, and don’t have any dedicated hosting packages.
They have kept the number of different hosting packages fairly small, which can make it easier to choose, especially for newer webmasters. Anyone who is looking for a good shared hosting service, or VPS options will likely have a good overall experience with this company.
Their entry level prices are a little higher than you would expect for what you get, but not so much so that it is a major turn off for customers.

Very reliable with 99.9% uptime guarantee
You’ll get a 99.9% uptime guarantee with all their packages, including the shared hosting. They don’t offer a set rebate or discount if they fall below this level, however. Most customers don’t complain about downtime, so that is a good indication that they do indeed have a stable hosting environment.
They operate two data centers, both in Boston, MA. They are well maintained with both the technology that operates them and the physical data center itself.
Easy to understand packages with nice features
This company limits the number of different package configurations, which makes it much less confusing overall. They are clearly focused on those who aren’t looking for anything extremely advanced, but still don’t want to miss out on the essentials of hosting.
They offer advertising credits from Google, Bing and Yahoo and also have a nice free website builder that makes it really easy to get up and running fast. Their custom control panel is surprisingly easy to use and functions largely the same as cPanel so webmasters won’t have too much of a learning curve.

They have an in-house staff of talented support technicians that are there 24/7/365 to assist you in any way you require. They do have a toll-free phone number as well as live chat available, and an internal ticketing system to report problems.
For do-it-yourselfers, they have a number of tutorials, user guides and a well done knowledgebase to help you along the way.
Prices are slightly higher than you would expect
When you compare the price points of EasyCGI with those of similar hosting companies you will find that they are a little bit overpriced. In addition, you don’t really get anything great for the extra money. That being said, however, the prices are only a small amount above the competition so it likely won’t be too much of a concern for most customers.

It is fairly easy to see why this company is among the largest hosting providers in the world. They do give a nice, reliable service that is easy to work with. You don’t need to be an expert to figure out what package you need, and their support teams area all friendly and helpful with all types of problems.

they are possibly the worst domain hosting service I have ever encountered. Horribly customer support. Domain parking and you can't renew your domain then they charge 100's of dollars to get it off them. When you begin to question them. They put your number on a call rejection list and won't answer your phone.
Easyggi staff made a domain change that broke my dns. They have not fixed it in 3 days so my business has been offline since 1 Sep. It is a simple problem of the url pointing to weebly web site yet they seem incapable of fixing their own error in 3 days
I have gone through quite the journey with EasyCGI. I started using them because of their past reputation, which was stellar. I also greatly appreciated that their power was derived from renewable sources. Everything was more or less fine for a couple of years, then I got my first alert about my site being infected with malware. I checked my files and didn't notice anything. I then got another alert, still nothing upon inspection. Finally, they suspended my account, so I did a complete check of my files. It was then that I learned that the infection was actually edits of my files. It was links and whatnot for counterfeit Chanel and Burberry.
To get my site active again, I edited my files and removed the offending content. I changed my password. I thought all was good.
Then, again, not more than a month or two later, I got another alert. My site was infected. This time, I knew what to look for, and sure enough, my files had been edited. I fixed them. I changed my password.
Then again, another alert. This time, whole pages constituting gigabytes of content were on my site. I deleted them. I changed my password.
This ridiculous cycle was repeated many more times.
After receiving an alert threatening to again condemn my site, they offered a premium site protection service. This straight-up pissed me off. I knew that the problem was on their end. My password was a 256-bit random alphanumeric string that had been changed multiple times. I had no plugins on my site. I wasn't running any applications. I had no database. It was absolutely their problem. I sent a strongly worded e-mail to customer support. They responded by saying that the fault was mine and offered me premium site protection again, pissing me off even more.
They said the problem was plugins. I have none. They said it was my app. My site is just a bunch of HTML and CSS. They said I was infected with malware on my computer. I scanned everything with multiple security applications. They said it was caused by "malwares which infect the website files [that] are different," whatever the hell that means. They even had the audacity to directly insult me by saying that they "understand that some of our customers are not technically savvy." They absolutely denied the problem was theirs. I just dropped it.
Then, a couple of weeks later, something truly bizarre happened. I received an e-mail from my own address claiming to have "control of [my] account." They claimed to have infected my computer with a trojan from an "adult website" that I visited. They said they had recorded me "pleasuring myself" and demanded $500 in Bitcoin otherwise they would e-mail the video to all of my contacts.
I find it highly suspect that I get an e-mail like this right after finally complaining in no uncertain terms. It's possible that the hackers were monitoring my e-mails, realized I was likely going to cancel my EasyCGI account and wanted to try out one last thing. But since the correspondence for this complaint was done with my Gmail, I don't think this was the case. Knowledge of the event was internal to EasyCGI. I believe it highly likely that there is a corrupt inside man at EasyCGI who is helping to infect sites and attempted to extract money from me. I appreciate that this is an egregious accusation to make, and I do not make it lightly, but the coincidence is hard to ignore.
That said, the threat was still real. It forced me to change ALL of my passwords. Because if someone actually had managed to infect my computer and log my keystrokes, I needed to eliminate even the mere possibility of further attack. I then wiped my computer. Almost needless to say, this was a huge impingement on my life.
Along with this was frequent problems with their dashboards, tools that wouldn't work, and statistics that were way off. Then their green certification page suddenly disappeared. As the years went on, the failure of the product became nearly complete.
I just read your review on easy cgi.....I too have been with then for almost 15 years and just recently going through the EXACT same situation. Same email threat....no help from them unless I want to shell out cash to sitelock...seems like they’re pricing is a joke too, they start high, then change their tune when you aren’t interested in working with them for the malware removal ( which should have been included in our hosting package anyways).... red flags going off in my head too. Can’t help but think this is an inside job...I guess it’s time to move on. I’ll be hosting my site elsewhere as soon as I have time to shop around...sorry to hear your story, best of luck
Yes. Absolutely. Move on. I appreciate that hosting is a commoditized product. I appreciate that it is not a sexy part of the Internet anymore. I appreciate that profit margins for the base product are undoubtedly low. But you should care about your product! Don't sell garbage!
LONGTIME customer lied to & charged extra $ for a standard service!!
Wow, I am beyond pi$ right now. I have over 2 dozen accounts with these people, and tonight just ended that relationship!!
I just opened another account today, and upon taking their little survey at the intro, I accidentally hit the wrong button for which editor I use, which has always been Weebly, which is and will probably be free with the hosting...until now!! Because I hit the wrong button, I figured a quick call to tech support would fix it. After putting me on hold so he could speak with "admin", he got back on the line and told me it would be $10.49 to add Weebly. I about flipped, I thought he was joking!!!
Long story short, this company prefers making $11 over $1,000's, so I hope they meet their demise sooner than later!!
For 14 years EasyCGI had great service and great product. Price reliability everything positive. Now they are as bad as they come. I use my site 10 days a year for a auction and it has been down half the time for 7 straight days. Last year in middle of auction they upgraded servers to new OS and took my site down for two days in the middle of the only 10 days I need site up. Support is awful. You can never talk to anyone that can actually do anything. I have spent 16 hours on chat support in 7 days. I have reopened the same ticket 16 times. Each time with a "sorry for..." And each time saying issue was fixed. SIXTEEN TIMES, more then once every day for 7 days. They are understaffed and under qualified.
Most companies charge $9.99/year for privacy. Easycgi charges $9.99 for the FIRST year, then it jumps to $12.99/year. Non-refundable, of course. My domain name jumped $2/year this year. They only handle my domain name and that's only because I forgot to move it. Somehow renewal jumped to 2 years which I did not realize either.
Hosting through them was the worst nightmare... my website crashed one day. No changes to anything on my end and they were of no help whatsoever. After MANY conversations, I rebuilt my site with another hosting company.
Customer chat? They are helping too many people at one time to do better than answer your questions once every 4-5 minutes.
Hmmm... if I could uncheck the stars in my score, I would because there is nothing I like about this company. A score of two is too high.
