Dotster are generally regarded as a domain registrar, but have moved their skills into the hosting arena by offering a basic hosting platform at a decent price. With a money back guarantee policy in place, CPanel, MYSQL and secure backups, they offer a solid service under 3 different hosting plans. Doster are also part of the Endurance Group who operates other domain hosting platforms.
No Uptime Promises but Details Given on Server Centre
Dotster is pretty sketchy when it comes to uptime and reliability with their hosting plans. They do not offer any kind of uptime statements or provide detailed information on the kind of stats you can expect.
Luckily, they do offer backups across all plans to give you that piece of mind, that if something should happen – you are covered. They also offer information on the Dotster servers, and state that they are held in a secure data centre with fully redundant power systems and 24/7 monitoring.
Basic Tool and Feature Set With Tempting Extras
When we look at features and tools offered by Dotster, they really lack any depth and quality here but do have the tempting offer of free Adwords and Facebook credits to help you kick-start any marketing campaign.
The basic plan offered Unlimited disk space and bandwidth, along with 5 FTP logins and 10 MYSQL databases, which is basic offering that most people will be happy with. If you are looking for more features and tools then it might be worth seeing what other hosting companies are offering for the same monthly price.
Dotster also offer eco-friendly hosting with high-efficiency servers, and will plant a tree for every new eco-hosting customer.
Varied Support Channels and Helpful Articles
Dotster do excel in their customer support, and offer every customer the opportunity to take advantage of contact details and knowledge bases packed with informative articles and video tutorials.
As well as a ticket system in place, you can also get hold of Dotster via social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter which usually offer customers a way to get a quick reply to simple questions.
If you live in the US, then you can also benefit from a toll-free 24/7 telephone number if you are signed up to any of the ultra hosting plans. However, there is an alternative number available for all the other plans that Dotster offer.

Simple and Affordable Price Range
There are 3 different plans to choose from under their shared hosting platform, under both Windows and Linux systems. The Windows hosting solutions are slightly more expensive which is an industry standard.
For the cheapest plan you can get basic hosting with Linux for as little as $3.75 per month with the ultra hosting plan costing $13.75. For each of the alternative Windows plans you just need to add an extra $1 per month on the 3 tiered plans.
Linux and Windows Plan: Some with CPanel, Some Not
It’s a bit of a 50/50 here with Dotster because they do offer the ever reliable and user-friendly CPanel control panel option to its customers, however you need to be taking out the VPS plans to be able to access it.
For the general Shared Hosting plans that run across Linux and Windows systems, you will get a Dotster custom control panel, which isn’t the most user-friendly of control panels and will take every user some time to get to grips with it.
The Hosting Platform For Beginners & Mid-Range Companies
For the basic user, Dotster offers basic features and tools to help plant the foundations for any mid-range website. If you are looking for more innovation and better features that dig deeper, then perhaps Doster isn’t for you.
The support offered is varied and offers customers the opportunity to delve into a plethora of contact methods and helpful articles or video tutorials, topped off by social media channels where you can get quick-time responses.
Finally Dotster offers perks such as marketing credits, which can lure in customers. Overall, they offer a decent service, for a decent price.
Where do I even begin... just STAY AWAY FROM DOTSTER!!
This company is, in a word, amateurish. The current company I work for has a few domains with them and each one I've had to do any maintenance on has had issues. They initially extorted us $100 for each domain that fell into redemption. They charged us $192 more than any other registrar for a .coop renewal for example Gandi.net charges $78). Their support take forever...
Double charge, suspend my domains for unwanted subscriptions
I totally agree with other reviewers. Never give them your card, they will continously charge it multiple time for the same thing. I got the same scripted line, we will refund your payments, but when i check, there is NO REFUNDS. Will suspend your entire account if you do not wish to continue paying for your expired domains. ! AVOID AVOID.
My websites and emails (including client websites and emails) have gone down suddenly several times over the years, and there is never any real explanation. It has taken weeks sometimes to get sites back up when they go down. Customer service is a nightmare to deal with - first you have to convince them there's a problem (they don't understand how to check if a website is down), and then you have to convince them that it's not fixed yet. I'd say it's like talking to a wall, but it's not - I wish it was. It's more like talking to an impudent child, who is snarky, talks back and is rude. And I'm not the type to be rude to customer service. I've been there. I let my steam out in reviews like this. I have never felt victimized by a company quite like I have felt victimized by Dotster. Stay far, far, far, far away.
Dotster wrote off my card money without my consent
Dotster wrote off my card money without my consent
Dotster have withdrawn from me money for service which I didn't order.
$17.49. Card **** 0530 I renew domain names at the price about $8.59. But not $17.49.
I didn't read the letter which Dotster sent 1. I did not subscribe to Dotsterr newsletter 2. I did not open spam I didn't buy service I don't need service I didn't confirm payment
This is a huge non-respect for the user.
I asked about a personal discount, which compensates me for the costs. For example, I could be given a discount to renew the domain. But nothing was given to me. This is a huge non-respect for the user again.
I have been a customer with Dotster for several years. In the past three months I have created numerous support tickets, hours worth of telephone calls, calls made every day, several times a day, and zero progress, zero information about why I have no service, my websites are not visible and when they are visible, changes/updates made do not appear.
You will never be able to cancel the services!!!!!! You will be charged even after closing the accounts! We closed our accounts January 2013 and we are still being charged for domains we have not used since 2012. Do not give them your credit card info. They owe us over $100 and we have been calling them for 3 plus years. Yes, they charged us in 2013, then 2014, 2015 and even in 2016, even though we called every time the charges appeared on the credit card and reminded them we cancelled those domains. Each time the answer was the same." We will check into it and give you a refund"......By the way, make sure when you call that you get a ticket number (if you do not have a ticket number, that means the person did not even put the request through to the department...) Every time I call customer service, I get a person in a different country, ie Luvinia from Philipines, who could not even put me in touch with a supervisor because there was no supervisor available... so she said....., then Porscha in Asia (just spoke with her today, so we will see) etc....... TERRIBLE company!!!!!! I would stay away!!!!!!!!! We had a .com and a .net domain with them. The issue is still not solved. Porscha promised she submitted it to the department that handles issues like this, but again, we have been told the same thing in the past by Luvinia and other customer service reps.... I had to call the credit card company and ask for a MERCHANT BLOCK on the account so the credit card company will not accept any more charges from them since I don't know what else to do, other than getting a lawyer and sue them.
Dotster used to be a decent registrar, but they've gone downhill in recent years. Their website has bugs in it that make it difficult to use, and their support people have no interest in doing anything more than replying with boilerplate answers, regardless of whether those answers match your problem or not. If they can't handle registering domain names, I certainly wouldn't trust them to host one of my sites,
