Domainplus.com.my is a Malaysian operation with a focus on economy-priced hosting solutions and is authorized to provision, renew and transfer names in the .MY domains. Other domains such as .asia and .com are also offered, but the emphasis is clearly placed on the .my domain.
Note: Make sure to use the .my extension as using domainplus.com oddly resolves to FTD Floral’s home page! http://www.domainplus.com.my/
Uptime & Reliability
Only a 99.5 Uptime Guarantee
Domainplus lists a 99.5% uptime guarantee, a rate which should be more than adequate for just about any customer except those running enterprise-level services. While I usually view testimonials with a grain of salt, I see them as a way to confirm service levels with existing customers; there was not a page with customer comments available. I was also unable to find a link that provided information in Domainplus’ data center, so I presume that they are a reseller.
While these do not necessarily indicate problems, these issues would suggest that customers need to do some of their own investigation prior to opening or migrating services to Domainplus—steps that should be taken with ANY provider, regardless of any information or claims listed on their webpage.
Features
Lots of options with basic features
A wide variety of services are offered: web hosting, shared hosting, domain names and SSL certificates. Another item available is web design service, something that many hosting organizations seem to avoid. For the growing company, web design is something that could provide great value when outsourced.
All services appear to be offered on the Linux platform, and server software included the popular cPanel, Softaculous, PHP, MySQL and Fantastico. While working behind the scenes on many companies, Apache is prominently listed.
All packages appear to be competitively priced and come with tools and allowances commensurate with their cost.
Support
Limited free support
One thing that the domainplus support page is that they view live support as a premium service that is only included as an extra or on high-end packages; even then it appears that phone support is used as after all other mediums have failed. A support email link is provided and suggests a response time of less than 90 minutes during working hours. While I believe that email is a great way to resolve issues and get information, sometimes speaking with a skilled technician in a timely manner is a superior way to provide customer service.
Pricing
Free for a year with domain purchase
Unlike almost every other organization, Domainplus offers free hosting with (with minimal allowances) for one year with the purchase of domain name registration on their base packages.
For the entry-level paid package, 10 GB of storage space, unlimited email, domains, MySQL and FTP on a DNS-cluster server is offered at 18.90 MYR ($5.21 USD) monthly with backup service being an additional charge. For 33.99 MYR ($9.37 USD), backup service is included and disk space is increased to 20 GB.
SSL certificates, another product not offered by the majority of hosting companies is offered and prices vary based on complexity and vendor. Comodo’s Positive SSL cost 17 MYR ($4.69 USD) to Symantec’s Secure Site Pro EV (extended validation) is listed at one-time price 4017 MYR ($1107 USD; this may seem expensive but is also one of the more advanced SSL certificates available.
Authorizing services are offered at 888 MYR ($245 USD) which includes 4 template-based pages, logo and several other features; additional pages are priced based on complexity.
All services are subject to Malaysia’s value added tax (VAT) of 6%.
