Cheap VPS offer SSD, OpenVZ and KVM VPS solutions to their clients, and do exactly what it says on the tin; they provide basic unmanaged VPS’s at rock bottom prices that allow even the tightest of budgets the chance to host on VPS. Due to the cheapness, there are some things that will be missing, one of the biggest seems to be telephone and email support.
Cheap VPS have a dedicated page on their website that details the infrastructure of the VPS servers on sale. Despite the page, they don’t really go into deep detail, but you get a break down on the type of hardware used, a UK data centre with 99.9% uptime and statistics on the network graph.
The SSD VPS which is the cheapest solution comes with some decent features that include 512MB of Burst RAM, 6GB RAID 10 storage, 500GB monthly bandwidth and a choice of Direct Admin, cPanel or plain OS. For the top spec package, the KVM Plan, you can benefit from 16GB RAID, 1TB monthly bandwidth and a host of other features such as IPv6 Ready and free setup.
Support is fairly good for a cheap hosting company, and you can benefit from several contact forms that are specifically aimed at Billing, Sales, Technical and General enquiries. If you are looking for either telephone or email support then you are out of luck.
A knowledge base, live status, live chat and support portal are all available on the site but if you want additional support for installation, setup or server management then charges can range from £10 per request and up to £35 per hour.
Price is definitely the most appealing factor at Cheap VPS with the SSD VPS 1 plan costing £2.99 per month or £29.95 per year, cPanel is an extra £10, Direct Admin £5 and if you want an additional IP Address you are looking at an extra £15. Even the highest tiered plan, the KVM, you can pay as little as £49.95 per month.
I think the biggest drawback is that the likes of cPanel cost that extra £10 per month which does put the price up significantly.
There are several pros and cons to the usability of Cheap VPS, and I will start with the bad news which is cPanel doest come as part of any plan. You can pay for this additionally but the cost is £10 each month which makes Cheap VPS not so cheap. For many cPanel fans this can be a turn-off.
Saying that, the site itself is laid out very well and its easy to see what services they have on offer, how much they cost and what features each plan comes with.
You don’t have a better choice on the market at the moment when it comes to cheap VPS solutions, and Cheap VPS make sure of that with rock bottom prices that are ideal for those on a tight budget or a small business, but also cater for those companies that need that extra power and feature selection. Support is average, and so is information on reliability and usability, but on the whole they do a great job for those hunting down a VPS host.
