Avlux was founded in the year 2000 and has been a growing company ever since. They are focused on shared hosting and dedicated servers, as well as offering some other tech services that aren’t directly related to hosting. They house their servers in the SoftLayer Datacenters, which are located primarily in the US, but they have many locations throughout the world as well. They really seem to like using some of the more popular programming languages for their hosting services, including Perl, Python, Ruby, Rails, Git and more. You’ll be able to find a nice hosting package with an OS that you love without any trouble. The company was founded by a programmer and linguist, and it really shows in the design of the site and how things are done. This is definitely a ‘nerdy’ company, but when it comes to web hosting, that is a good thing.
Uptime & Reliability
Very stable hosting at all levels
The servers are housed in some of the world’s nicest data centers, which really helps to ensure a stable environment. If there are any hardware issues or other problems, they respond to them immediately to get you back up and running. You do get a 99% uptime guarantee, which is really just a token sales point, and not quite as good as many other companies provide. When it comes to true reliability, however, this company outperforms most others. Even for their lower end shared hosting, there are very few customers (current or former) who complained about downtime or even slow loading speeds. This is a very good indication of the quality of service that Avlux provides.
Features
Lots of features included and many premium options
When you sign up for hosting with this company you will get everything you need to get up and running right away. It can take some time, however, to make the choice on which type of hosting you want. They have a number of basic packages, but then they also have packages designed for specific things. For example, they have premium hosting for WordPress, Redmine, Rails, RadiantCMS and many others. For someone who isn’t up on the latest technical jargon, this can be a bit confusing. If you are able to overlook it, however, the hosting that is provided is really quite nice and most customers seem to be very happy with it.
Support
Great customer service and support
if you are having any type of problems, you will not have a problem getting in touch with the technical support teams. They have an easy to use email support, and an online help desk that is there for you. If you prefer the phone, they do have a phone number available, but it is not toll-free. They also have quite a bit of documentation on general hosting and other technical topics so you can learn more about the hosting that they provide.
Pricing
Somewhat expensive but not too bad
For their dedicated servers and other higher end options, the pricing is right in line with what you’ll find with most other companies on the net. For their lower end hosting, however, it is a bit expensive. You do get some very nice features and you’ll be happy with the performance, but the price really is more than you should have to pay for basic shared hosting.
