Currently, the market offers a wide diversity of web hosting providers. In general, shared hosting is the cheapest option, starting at an average of $2.50 per month. On the other side of the spectrum, we can find dedicated hosting, as the most expensive kind, costing an average minimum of $80.
No doubt, there are many options in between. And if you are in it for a while, you might decide to spend over $500 per month on a web hosting provider. Still, this doesn’t make sense for most companies.
In some instances, there is no point in going for the pricey web hosting providers. Luckily, there is an alternative, dollar hosting.
If you considered $10 per month as a low price a few years back, that’s not the case anymore. The web hosting industry was much more expensive. However, with the significant improvements in the niche, the prices of monthly plans have significantly dropped.
Anything between $0.99 and $4 per month falls within cheap web hosting. But that’s where I draw the line.
At this point, you might be wondering, are these cheap web hosting services worth it? Or can I trust these providers? Fast forward, the answer is yes, you can.
Why Go For A “Dollar” Web Hosting?
In general, dollar hosting providers are the perfect solution for new websites. Even though they don’t provide fancy add-ons or extensive features, these web hosting vendors can still get your site up and running. Essentially, it’s a good starting point.
Take, for instance, a site with little to no traffic. If you are the owner of one, you are well aware that you have a limited number of pages and files. So, there’s no point in paying $30 per month, or worse yet, more.
You can always upgrade to a more expensive plan or even a web hosting provider allowing domain transfers. The best time to increase your monthly expenses is when you spot a decline in your website performance. It’s only then that you can justify this extra spending.
The Best Dollar Hosting Providers By Rank
Now that you get the idea, I will get right into it. Here’s my list of the top five dollar hosting vendors.
To better compare the five web hosting providers, I have taken the cheapest shared hosting plan as a base for each. Then, I have reviewed and tested the features it offers.
|Pricing||Starting at $1.39 per month||Starting at $3.99 per month||Starting at $0.90 per month||Starting at $2.50 per month||Starting at $2.50 per month|
As mentioned, shared hosting is generally the cheapest of all plans. However, there’s one more thing to watch out for. Generally, the price is negatively related to the time. If you purchase a longer-term plan or commit to the web hosting provider, you will get a discount. The rule of thumb is, the longer the period, the better the deal.
Once again, I will take the Single Shared Hosting plan, with the above-listed features, as a base.
Here’s a breakdown of Hostinger’s pricing.
|Single Shared Hosting plan||1 Month||12 Months||24 Months||48 Months|
|$9.49 / month||$2.99 / month (68% discount)||$1.99 / month (79% discount)||$1.39 / month (85% discount)|
Apart from the discount, the 2-year plan comes with a free setup and an SSL Certificate Activation.
Hostinger comes with a low upfront payment. But what I like most about it is the renewal rates. While many web hosting companies offer a discount exclusively on the initial contract, Hostinger retains this price at renewal.
Better yet, Hostinger allows for scalability. You can always choose to upgrade from the Single to a Premium or even a Business Shared Hosting. The latter two offer 100 websites, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited MySQL databases, free domain registration, 100 email accounts, 100 subdomains per account, 100 parked domains, unlimited FTP accounts, up to 200 GB SSD Storage, increased RAM, and active processes. The business shared hosting plan is the only one offering daily backups.
Flaunt7 is a unique web hosting provider, as it provides a free plan. You got it right. You can get your site up and running without spending a dollar out of your pocket. And here’s what you’ll get:
- 1 Website
- 500MB NVMe
- 50GB Bandwidth
- Directadmin + CloudLinux
- 1 Free SSL Certificate
- No Support via Ticket or chat
- Forum Support
- 100 Unique Visits/day
- Softaculous Apps Installer
- Imunify360 Antivirus
- Litespeed Web Server (Up to 75x faster than Apache)
When it comes to the paid pricing plans, Flaunt7 doesn’t offer discounts, even if you commit to an annual plan.
Flaunt7 offers Unlimited Domains, Unlimited NVMe Storage, Unlimited Bandwidth, cPanel + CloudLinux, Free SSL Certificate (Issued After Purchase), Free Domain with Annual Plan in all shared hosting plans. The difference is in the number of unique monthly visits (up to 2 million), RAM (up to 64GB), and CPU cores (up to 10).
Hostens is yet another web hosting company that offers discounts on its shared hosting plans.
|Shared Hosting plan||1 Month||12 Months||24 Months||36 Months|
|$3.00 / month||$1.50 / month (50% discount)||$1.20 / month (60% discount)||$0.90 / month (70% discount)|
I like Hostens because you get a free domain, website builder, and backups in all its shared hosting plans.
Their free domain feature allows for .Online, .Store, .Website, Tech or .Site domains with annual billing cycle. The website builder is an easy-to-use and quality tool that Hostens gives free of charge. Finally, the Installatron tool enables you to install, update, and backup over 100 scripts and CMS.
If your business grows in the future, you can also upgrade to a more advanced (and pricier) plan. Hostens offers up to 40 GB disk space, 4 TB bandwidth, 40 websites, 40 databases, and 400 email accounts in its Shared hosting plans. All of Hostens plans come with a 99.95% uptime guarantee and proactive support.
Interserver is another quality yet affordable web hosting provider. It offers Shared Hosting, Cloud Hosting, Quick Servers, and Dedicated Servers. Once again, I will use the Standard plans for comparison.
As part of its 461 Cloud Apps, Interserver works with WordPress, AbanteCart, PrestaShop, Drupal, Joomla, Magento, phpBB, SMF, WHMCS, Dolphin, PHP-Fusion, Cubecart, and osCommerce.
When it comes to development, you can find all Unlimited MySQL DB, PHP 5.5 & 5.6, PHP 7, Fast CGI, Ruby on Rails, Python, node.js (beta), PERL 5.10 SSH Access in the shared hosting plans.
Interserver is also compatible with WordPress, offering Easy WordPress Installer, Weekly Backups, Automatic Updates, and the Use of Any Plugin.
As you can spot, Interserver offers lots of freebies. What’s not included in this package is the Domain Registration.
Lastly, I decided to rank Webdock on my list as an incredibly unique web hosting company.
Once you launch their site, you will instantly spot the two types of servers they offer. You can choose one in Europe or America. They differ in terms of features and price.
I took the lowest pricing plan for comparison in the table above. The cheapest server in the USA comes with 1 GB Bandwidth, 2 GB, 8 Threads, and 5 GB Storage. Yet, it’s a bit over my price range for a cheap server. So, I went for the one in Europe named SSD Nano.
If you decide to upgrade your hosting plan with Webdock in the future, you can get a maximum of 200 GB SSD Drive, 15 Cores, 30 Threads, 1 GB S-Port, 20 GB RAM, and 1 dedicated IPV4 address.
The web hosting industry has expanded to a level that companies offer superior features at low prices. The five web hosts mentioned before provide all features needed to get your site up and running for less than $4.00 per month. You might even go for the free option to get a grasp of how things and tools work.
You can always upgrade your shared hosting plan or even change it completely. After all, the benefits should cover the costs. Essentially, there’s no point in going for the more expensive option if you don’t need it.
The best way to choose a dollar web hosting is to list your requirements and priorities. Then, you can match them to what web hosts offer on the market and make your final decision.
